We are going May 4-9 and wanted to know what to expect for crowds (avg. wait time?). Since they have added SpectroMagic and FITS on May 6, is this an indication that crowds will be heavy?

Also, is it possible to extend your stay once you are at the resort? We are staying at the WL and might decide to add an additional night. Can you do this during your stay (assuming they have room)?

This is our first time with our children (2, 4 yo) and I think 6 days / 5 nights will be sufficient. We will be spending most of the time in MK and will take our time (midday breaks, etc.). Is this enough time given expected croiwds? We will all be cramped into one room so by the end of 6 days may be ready to go home. Any thoughts??

You will be able to extend your stay if there is room availability at WL. You can probably get more info about this subject over on the resorts board. Lots of WL experts over there.

I think you are going to be surprised at how short 6 days and 5 nights at WDW really is, especially with children along.

I have never been to WDW in early May, only in late May. School is still in session over most of the US in early May, so the crowds should be quite manageable.

That's a great time to visit WDW, the weather should be very nice.

IMHO, early May is a good month for crowds. Easter is over and the spring break crowds are gone. Most schools dont let out until the end of May so summer vacations have not yet started. You see a big difference toward the end of May when the schools get out.

The crowds weren't bad around that time last year, and I hope they're about the same this year since we'll be there May 3 - 11.

early may is traditionally one the very best times to visit WDW. warm(if not hot) weather; but, not as humid and stifling as the later summer months. usually not as much rain either. crowd levels are generally pretty small to moderate during early may for the reasons other posters have mentioned. it was our favorite time to go to WDW, but, wife is now teaching and we can't go at that time anymore. go and enjoy....

Hi Disneyshack. You are lucky to be staying at WL. You will have such a nice time. I know how you feel about so much togetherness in the room. Here is a tip that might work for you. WL has rooms called a junior suite. They are actually 2 rooms, one being a bedroom one a small LR. We went when our kids were about the age of yours and this worked fantastic. Maybe you can ask about a complimentary upgrade. It doesn't hurt to ask. Also, I bet your children will love the ferry to the MK. Have a great time.

With the later hours at MGM, I'm hoping it will thin things out. We go the first week of May every year and the attendance seems to considerable increase each year.

What you will find is that people with young children - like yourself - preschool age kids will be the predominant force in the parks. Off season doesn't matter when you don't have school to worry about.

Don't get me wrong its manageable by all means, and I think that the additions will help things, but it hasn't been empty by any stretch - but there's always hoping!

Now Oct of 1998 was empty!!! Hasn't been since in any off season trip!

we're going to be there mother's day weekend, 5/8 to 5/12, and we're a little worried about the crowds. The last time we were there in May was 1997...Anyon have any predictions for crowd volume for that weekend?
