DH and I made the decision that we will be able to take a Universal Vacation this summer. :cool1: Let the planning begin, right? :surfweb: No Disney though which makes me sad to be so close yet so far. Right now I am leaning towards the first week of Aug. (Aug 3-9). The first week of June is not out of the question but Aug gives us more time to save and plan. My question is ...and there will be plenty more to come.... Will the crowds be significantly lower in June? I do plan to get the 14 day pass where we can go US, IOA and the water park if we go in Aug. If we go in June I would take advantage of the 3 day deal. I know that we can do everything in US and IOA in 3 days but we may have to go at a quicker pace. I like the idea of taking it slow and easy. I also prefer a condo vs. a hotel that is part of the offer even though I know we would get early entry. We have five of us. Kids are 19,17 and 12. We aren't huge water park people so it wouldn't be that big of an issue if we missed it but it would be nice to be flexible. All in all I am leaning more towards Aug unless the crowds are way lower the first week of June.

Crowds are lower in early June since lots of schools haven't finished classes yet. Plus the weather in June is better than August...August is like a cauldron whereas June is just starting to heat up. I would pick June so you can take advantage of the three day ticket deal.

I'd definitely pick early June. Early August is prime vacation time and the crowds will definitely be much bigger. Also, Transformers will be opening this summer and there generate bigger crowds.

Hmmmm, We had a conversation this morning and I think we are set for Aug. I think mainly because last summer we took our vacation the day after school dismissed. Summer was over at that point for me and it really hadn't even started. :( We returned home the day after Memorial day. We did Disney in Aug in 2008. The heat was not too big of a problem for us but it seems less open than Universal.
When is Transformers scheduled to open?

you gave your august dates as 3-9.
this will be a crowded time, more so than early June.

stay onsite if you can swing it.
well worth going back to the hotel for a swim break during the afternoon sun/heat.
relax some and then return to the parks later

August is hot.

if you stay onsite, you can use the free hotel shuttle to W & W, SW also.

Well, we decided to do June after all. Now for the great debate on where to stay. We aren't going to stay on site. We need space now that the kids are older so we will be getting a condo. I was leaning towards Vista Cay but I asked but ended up with a good deal at Bonnet Creek. It is about $40 less but it is also an 18 min drive vs a 10 min drive per mapquest. Much nicer pools with water slide and lazy river at BC. Nicer condo with more space at Vista Cay. Since we like to come back and rest we will probably end up at Vista Cay.....I think.

Thanks for the helpful tips!

get some reviews on trip advisor for those 2 off site places.

that may help you decide on which place to book.

Personally, I would choose a condo that was close to Universal. Bonnet Creek is in Lake Buena Vista. There are many condos much closer that are very nice.

Check out the Hilton Grand Vacations at SeaWorld or Marriott's Cypress Harbor.

June is also pretty hot too, already in the 90s. The crowds will be smaller though...I'd stay on property for the express passes.

I mailed our deposit for our Condo. :cool1::cool1::cool1: Vista Cay was the winner after all of my research. Why you ask? It was fairly close. 10 minute estimate drive time and affordable. Less than $130 per night including all taxes and fees for a 3 bedroom. We really need the space although we could have managed with a 2 bedroom. A room at any of the US resorts or partners was not going to cut it. I strongly considered Embassy Suites with their 4th night free plan but it still was not going to offer enough space. My husband is on a strict low carb diet for health reasons so he really needs access to a kitchen. Plus my kids tend to get tired of eating out. I love planning vacations and I am getting very excited. We will arrive June 1. :wizard:

PS... If anyone can help me with my ticker I would really appreciate it. I can't get it to show the whole ticker. I think it is a space issue but I have seen folks use a much more space than what I am using.

One more thing...the moderator can feel free to move to the trip report section. I have noticed there is not much action over there. Let's get the party started!
