Early January after New Year’s?

I am mostly assuming that our June trip wil be cancelled and looking at rescheduling. With two kids at different colleges with different schedules, and unfortunately different spring breaks, we’re starting to think about January. Can anyone tell me about the crowds right after New Year’s? I’m thinking like January 2 - 9...

We go every year around that time because it fits with our kids schedules. It is very, very busy (but who knows what this year holds). The further from New Years it gets, the crowd thins a bit. That said, we always have a great time as long as we have a good plan (fastpasses, adrs, etc).

The Marathon starts Jan 6. We run every year, and crow levels are high (in my opinion). This year the race was sold at 30% capacity, so it may not be as bad. I'll be there as long as the race goes on!

Given all the obvious variables to this year and how they impact park attendance, we went last January 3 -6 and 12-16 in a pre- and post-cruise stay. From the 3rd to the 6th, the parks were packed. We had our ADRs and Fps, so the only time we were impacted was during fireworks / parades. Who even knows if those large gathering events will still be happening come January? However the 12th - 16th were great. Moderate crowds. Nice weather. I hope it all goes well for you.

I think one thing you have in your favor is the day of the week New Year's falls. With it on that Friday, there's a good chance most undergrad schools will be back in session by the 4th or 5th. That Mon-Wed should be decent days, but with the marathon crowds coming in for the end of the week....it's a crap shoot.
