Early entry with two day park hopper

If you aren't staying in a Disney hotel, and you buy a two day park hopper, do you get the benefit of one early entry with the park hopper? Or is it only if you stay in their resorts?

If you stay at the resort hotels you get EE on all days it is offered. If you get a 3 or more day ticket, you get one day of EE no matter where you stay.

So do I need to buy my ticket at the hotel to get this? I guess I don't understand how they know who is staying at the Disney hotels. Do you have to give them your tickets to add it at the front desk?

To get EE each day it is offered if you are staying on site you show them your room charge slip on entry to the park to prove that you are staying on site. You do not need to buy your tickets at the hotel to take advantage of this.
