Early entry for Harry Potter

if we are on site guests and get the extra hour for the Harry Potter areas, do they alternate which park opens early? Or is it possible that with a two night stay, the early hour would be the same park both days?

It's very common for early entry to be at the same park for days or weeks in a row.

Yes agree with above eg it was universal studios open 1 hour early for whole of our 10 night stay in October.

One thing you can do if it is studios only early entry is on second day ride Hogwarts express at 9am to islands Of adventure. You will be ahead of the crowds coming from park entrance.

Unless it is a busy time of year ( summer, spring break, Christmas etc) , it is usually ONLY at one of the parks. Alot of the time it is only at IOA, but for most of October it was at the studios ( because the studios closed early-5pm- on Halloween Horror Nights guests)

Just be aware that lots of other folks will do the same. If you walk to the HE entry right at 9:00, there may already be a looong line there. If you're really trying to "rope drop" the other park, you'll need to be in line before 9:00.

Yes that is good advice. The train doesn't start running until 9am or whenever Islands of Adventure opens. We found it moved quickly once they opened but we would have been in line before 9am.
