early December studios

Hasn't the RAT been limited to a 60 day window now with only a printout of resort availability? And it is only called "Resort Availability" as Tool has been dropped. Otherwise you use the Book Online page.
Technically, yes, and that's a good point. I think it's casually called RAT since it's such an easy term to remember, but the actual RAT is for 60 days. However, you can see what's available on that same drop down menu and book it online. Ergo, why I think many call the whole process by the more familiar name.

I've been trying to pick up two weekdays at OKW (not sequential) in a studio for about a month now (I own there) and have had no success. I'm still about two weeks out for 7 months out and I'm hoping my waitlist will come through. I had all three nights about three months ago, but had to cancel that reservation because I thought I might need the points.

omg I did the same thing a month ago for 6 nights in a studio at BLT for the 2nd week in December. luckily ive been stalking like crazy and have picked up the first 4 nights in a lakeview and the last 2 nights in a standard. I was kicking myself for a while

Alright so I thought I’d update! Instead of stalking like crazy and waiting on a cancellation I found another fellow DVC member with home resort priority at AKL and she booked one night at Kidani for me. It’s the first night of our trip, then we’ll move to CCV.

Since I am using someone else’s points for our first night it allows me to save some of my points for our big 2020 trip with extended family. I’m kinda relieved to not have to stalk!

Yay! I made sense! pirate: I'll give you two prime examples of how the RAT has helped us. (I should presage these comments by saying we don't mind doing split stays which is something you often end when you cobble together days. Disney makes it easy to do split stays by taking care of your luggage, so we don't mind them at all.) The most recent occurrence is our upcoming 3-day trip to HHI--an almost impossible reservation to get 7 months out for spring/summer months. By using the resort availability tool, we found a single day in a studio for day two. A few days later we snagged a 1BR for the last day. We've yet to find a room that first day (it's the 4th of July so not holding out hope), but we booked a nearby hotel. Still, it's cheaper than three days in a hotel. My second example took place last year for our 5-day trip to DL. The Villas at the Grand Californian (VGC) are also difficult to reserve at the 7-month point nearly any time of year. We put in our waitlists (in case you were unaware, you can have two concurrent waitlists) and then began to stalk the RAT. Our backup plan was a cash reservation at the DL Hotel. Within a few weeks, we saw a 1BR open for our first two days at VGC and grabbed it. Another couple of weeks passed, and the last two nights popped up for a grand villa. We swallowed hard but sucked up the extra point costs and booked that. The final night in between never did open up for us, so we had to do a split-split stay. However, as mentioned, Disney made it easy to do the switching. Again, we paid one night OOP instead of five. Best wishes as you plan! Many people on here are like you in that they get some sort of weird thrill by hunting for reservations. Have fun!
It is kind of a thrilling and nerve wracking hunt lol! This is our first split stay. Im excited and kinda surprised DH was on board for it. We have a rental car too so it makes it a little easier so we can just keep our stuff with us all day in case bell services takes a little while to deliver our things!

We always drive (except to DL), and we also keep items in the car that we might need THAT day. Anything else, along with food stuffs, we have bell services hold until the room is ready. The thrill of the hunt!
