Day 11 - December 10th
I woke up in tears this morning, I really didn't want to leave. We had to pack up all our stuff, and it took forever! Amazingly we were able to get all our stuff, beanies and monorail included in our original bags, and we did not have to ship a box home. We had one extra shopping bag to carry on, with the dragon and my Mickey Snowman. We also had one shopping bag to carry to the airport with jeans, sweatshirts and jackets for the flight home. We
finally got out of our room about 11:15, and went to bell services to store our luggage. What a chore hauling all that stuff, even with wheels our HUGE suitcases weigh a ton. We walked to the Boardwalk and rented a surrey. The kids were dying to do this the whole trip. Sure they were, it was easy for them LOL, not so easy on the adults! Those two little hills you have to pedal up are hard work, we opted to only go around twice LOL. We were
surprisingly hot when we were finished, it was the warmest day yet. Of course it was, we were leaving today. We decided to get our luggage and go drive somewhere to eat. They only brought out 9 of our 10 bags they had stored, so dh had to go help the guy search for our other bag, the one with the sweatshirts and jackets. They did not find it in the room, and finally a woman found it sitting on the sidewalk with someone else's stuff. We were
going to head to the All Star Movies and have lunch at their food court, but we saw Mc D's first, and just stopped there. What a great McDonalds it is, the kids loved the movie screen and they were playing Toy Story 2 while we ate. Now, on a good day, the scene where they play "When she loved me" while Jesse remembers Emily, makes me cry. I told dh if they play that scene while we are still here I am done. Sure enough they did, but I was tough, I
only sniffled a little. I was justified though, when a table full of teenage girls were laughing at one of themselves, because she was crying too! She even needed to wipe her face LOL. I had thought about hiding in the bathroom, but I'm glad I didn't' because the movie sound is even louder and clearer in the bathroom LOL. We stopped at the Marketplace to buy the bathroom stuff, and a couple more items before we hit the airport. I was finally
able to find a second shirt for Alexa here. Of course this is just more stuff to put in the luggage LOL. Now we were pushing our flight time, but we made to the airport just in time. Budget is very efficient in their rental returns, before we even got out of the car, somebody came up with a little handheld computer and printed us a receipt. We then checked in and checked our luggage. The woman at the counter couldn't lift our bags so she made us
weigh them. The one actually exceeded their limit at 73 pounds! YIKES. She told dh "I'm not going to charge you but you have to jump the counter and lift it on the conveyor", so he did LOL. We then had to run to change into our home clothes, yuck, I prefer shorts. We got on the plane and I think we actually would have taken off early, but they ended up 2 seats short for a family and had to do some rearranging and some bumping of 2 people LOL.
Then we took off promptly on time. The captain came on and told us the current temp in Minneapolis (keep in mind it is 81 degrees when we return the rental), it's -3. The whole plane groaned. That just makes it so much harder to go home. Alexa fell asleep about 15 minutes into the flight. I think the trip finally took it's toll on her. I had ordered kids meals so they got served first, hamburgers, which I knew Alexa wouldn't eat even if she was
awake. To my surprise Matthew loved it. Alexa never did eat, and neither did the girl sitting in my row with her mother. Both Alexa and this girl had airsickness bags nearby, but luckily neither needed them. The flight home seemed to take forever, and then we were back, in the arctic weather. Oh yeah, on the plane, Alexa spilled pop on her pants, so I had to put her shorts back on. Poor thing, I wrapped her legs in my jacket, and just wore my
sweatshirt. Luckily we got picked up at the door in our warm van so we didn't have to walk far. I was not happy with the cold, but life goes on. I cannot wait until we can make another trip back!
