Early Check In

Well tomorrow is our 10 days until WDW an I've read various comments concerning early check-in.

Please everyone comment for me and let me know:

1.) What actually is the purpose of early check in?

2.) If I don't like my room assignment can I change once I get there?

3.) Does it save time?

4.) Anything else I need to know.

This is our first time staying in a villa. We have a 2 bedroom at AKV - Jambo, savanna view. We are considering buying DVC so rented the points from someone this time figuring if we do buy, we would buy at AKV.

It allows you to put your check-in information into the system (expected arrival time, credit card # etc) and when you get there, they will have everything ready for you. It does not guarantee your room will be ready when you get there.

There is a separate line for those who did on-line check-in vs regular check-in.

It does not pre-assign your room # when you enter your check-in information. You will not find out your room # until you get there, just like regular check-in.

Whether it saves time or not is debatable, I've never found long check-in lines at DVC resorts. I prefer to do everything in person.

We used the online check in for our September stay at SSR and BCV. We won't use it again. Yes, it saved a minute or two because they already had our credit card info on file. And the room at SSR was ready at our stated arrival time of 2:30. The room at BCV was not available until 4PM. Although we had our key cards, we had to wait for the call to find out our room number. That being said - we did not get our room requests for either location, first time we have not received a request. And when we asked if they would check to see if a room was available in the areas we requested, we felt like we received a half-hearted attempt at best. We also did not get our statement on the morning of checkout at SSR, and when I called they said they had not set us up for Express Checkout. So, we had to stop at the Front Desk.
Personally, in the future I'd rather wait an extra minute or two and cherck in the 'old fashioned' way.
