We are staying at AKL after are 4 night cruise. Check is not until 4pm can we at least drop bags. I know I have been to POP and checked in early is that the same?

Yes. Bell services will hold your bags until your room is ready so you can run off to a park or something else!

You may be lucky and have a room ready early! I've gotten into a savannah room studio at noon. You can't count on it, of course, but still, it does happen!!!
