Early BLT Purchase and Developer Points?

I bought 200 BLT points the first weekend of the sale and got the Tempo Fountain inscription - but no developer points....I believe others who bought in later got the developer points and still got the fountain inscription....true? Many people have been successful in having developer points added to their contract retroactively. I don't know if they will still do it at this late date, but I do know one thing - it doesn't hurt at all to ask. Just call your guide. Good luck!

We also bought 200 points when they first became available. We got our name on the tile. After reading the boards and saw people got the developer points also I called dvc yesterday. I was told we were not eligible because we bought in the beginning and we are founding members with the tile. She said if I wanted to do an additional add on we could get the points or the cruise.

This seems to be Disney's marketing pattern. We had the same thing happen for AKV. Disney doesn't give anything away unless they have to. Initial sales are brisk due to anticipation and hype. When sales begin to fall off, they add incentives to keep up the sales momentum.

I bought BLT add-on the first day of sales. When DVC started offering deleloper points I asked our guide about them and was informed we were not elidgible since our purchase had closed. I doubt DVC would have given them to anyone retroactively if they had already closed on their purchase.

Actually MANY people got the DP's after their contract closed, myself included. There are many threads and posts regarding this issue. However, this was started back in November/December and everyone I know THEN who called and had their contracts closed DID get the DPs. Just FYI

That approach isn't exactly unique to Disney and there's certainly nothing underhanded about it. Many products cost more when they are first introduced to market and the discounts follow when demand declines.

Besides when BLT was first introduced there were a lot of us openly urging caution. So we can't say that folks weren't forewarned.

That said, I did read several reports of people who claimed their Guide committed to getting the Developer's Points retroactively. I have no idea of whether it actually happened. But that was about 3 months ago now so quite a bit of time has passed.

No I wasn't eligible. But I know approx 4 people here on the DIS that were founding members and closed long before I did (I closed 11/11/09). Some as early as 10.10 that got their DPs. There are many threads on this, here is the one I was a part of last year

It seems to me, if they did it to one founding member, they should do it for all...

We closed late Sept. (purchased Sept.16) and are founding members (tile inscription and all). We did call our guide after reading other founding members had received DP retro. He was able to get us 210 DP. From what I have read, I do believe they were dishing out DP to many founding members.

Really, I dont see how they could do it for some founding members, and not for others, regardless of what the date is.

I think if one pursued this with quiet and polite determination, results should happen.

Thank you LadyKay for your response. If there are other founding members out there that managed to get developer points, it would be wonderful if you could chime in here, on this thread, for 'evidence' purposes.

I will also read the linked thread to review past peoples experience getting retroactive points to see how it was done, but I suspect its really the guide that made the difference.

Well, I do think you have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. You can't have customers coming back a year demanding additional incentives simply because they heard someone else got it.

I think DVC's biggest mistake was offering the extra points in the first place. Twenty years ago companies could get away with making case-by-case exceptions. But in the Internet age, everyone knows what everyone else is getting.

DVC should have either stood firm on the sales terms that folks accepted from the start or given the extra points out to everyone.

The developer points dont hurt Disney I wouldnt think -- they would promote customer satisfaction, and if you stay on site, then you eat and shop on site, and you need park tickets (if you dont have ap's). With times the way they are, and the big old discounts non dvcers are getting, I would think this would be a no brainer for them - and make those loyal dvcers very happy with customer relations.

Perhaps the guides lose some comission or something if they give the DP's retroactively, and that is why some say 'yes' and some say 'no' (just a guess here).

Again, not disagreeing with you, I just feel an arguement could very easily be made for those founding members who did not recieve the DP's. And, I think, as long as people dont go around screaming -- we deserve this - but rather say - a precedent has been set, we would also like to recieve this benefit, and then we shall be extremely happy dvcers - and then see what happens.

I am always a 'cup half full' and 'lets see what can happen - I believe in Disney magic' kind of person. If those developer points cant be had, well then, at least I know I tried my best for my friend.

I kind of doubt guides are penalized for people asking for this incentive. My guide told me that it was a very simple matter to take care of, he just couldn't offer it to his members - they had to ask.

It's actually kind of funny to me - all of us asking Disney to give us these points that don't cost them anything so that we can go spend more of our money there than we otherwise might have!

However, I do agree that they have to draw the line somewhere. And I imagine they probably have drawn the line and it has more to do with when you request the retroactive points, not when you actually purchased.

I for one feel that Disney went way above and beyond on this issue by giving retro DP's to those who asked. I got other incentives before the DP's were offered, and after asking was granted them. However, that being said, if they didn't give the DP's to anyone, then I would have said, that's cool, I got what I got when I signed, that's the deal. But by making the exception for one, they got requests from all of us asking to be treated equally; which they did.

I also agree they need to "draw a line in the sand" at some point. I signed my paperwork literally less than a week before they announced the DP's and felt somewhat slighted. If I had known, I would've held off signing. But of course Disney is infamous for just "throwing incentives out there" and you "get what you get". I think they saw this and would rather make happy new owners than jilted ones, just my .02.

If they didn't make a stand at some point, I'm sure some people would try to get the cruise promotion as well. Just my opinion.

This kind of thing happens all the time with DVD.

Another thing that I think is wrong is how the incentives change depending on who you buy from. The deals at the Preview Center are different than the deals while on a cruise or from the Doorway to Dreams. Doesn't seem right.
