Are the wait times less/considerably less at the HP rides during early admission hours? Is it worth getting there early for or are they more crowded because that's all that's running?

It all depends when you are going. During busy times, it is useful, otherwise...not so much.

The lines might not be super short for rides but it's lovely to have the HP parts far less crowded. You can easily browse all the stores and practice magic if you buy an interactive wand.

We did it one day of our trip. Yes, lines were very short. Like damo said it would be especially helpful during crowded times, but we get up early anyway so it is fairly easy for us. (But don't try to get on Gringott's twice in a row on the same locker time, a whole bunch of us got locked out.)

I've done early entry a number of times during low crowd times and REALLY enjoyed it. Of course, I can't stand crowds so I will take any advantage that I can get.

My travel buddy can't tolerate Despicable Me so I usually send her ahead to do Gringotts a couple of times (a ride she loves and one that I just like) and I do DM and then wander, taking photos. I've been able to get some really cool photos around London and Diagon Alley with no people in them and love to use that time to explore the shops. So far on all my trips I've only ever done the Universal side for early entry although I wish that I could get similar time in IOA/Hogsmeade, an area that gets even more crowded during the day than Diagon Alley.
