Well, we finally got the letter on Saturday. DD was deferred admission to Boston College. That means she can try again this winter for an April admission. So...good news/bad news. At least the waiting is out of the way, for a few more months anyway. How about everyone else? :)

Good luck to DD. I'll spare both of you the it's-all-for-the-best-at-least-it-wasn't-a-rejection glurge. Good luck! Where else is she going to apply?

Thanks, Hedy! DD is also applying to Bates, Colby, Emerson, Wheaton, and Gordon. She will be somewhat close to home, anyway! :)

Good luck!
DH was just accepted in the first round of grad school admissions to University of Pittsburgh! Now he's waiting to see if they'll give him any kind of money to go. Wierd to be going through it all over again.

A good friend of mine just graduated from Bates.

Oh wow, you mentioned applying to Gordon...that is near and dear to my heart :) . I don't know how much you have looked into it yet, but I am "sort of" alumnae there. I am a graduate of Barrington College('80), which has merged with Gordon. It was the best two years of my life (other than the great years I've had with my family of course). I am Catholic, and this is a Christian based (protestant etc) college, but it is truly a fantastic education. No drinking, smoking etc allowed and it is the funnest time your daughter will ever have in her entire life and the most rewarding. I am envious she has the opportunity to spend four years there. I wish I could do it again, it was that terrific. I am curious, why is she considering it? For the major or some other reasons? I wish you luck in this process, I know what your going thru, my son is a freshman in college.

Hey, Jillpie, thanks for your comments! Gordon is also near and dear to me...many of my friends are graduates and some have taught/currently teach there. We are Christians and this a solid Christian college. I would love for my daughter to attend...she is interested in a theatre and English/Journalism major, and Gordon has a great program. Boston College is the only other one with a religious affiliation (Catholic) and the Jesuit education is a wonderful one (one brother alumni, one brother attending). We'll see! :)

You've got the right attitude. I was deferred when I applied early to my top school. I later got in with the regular decision....good luck!!

Wonderful. Well then you know she will be led to the right school for her. When one door closes...I'm kind of hoping for Gordon for her though, I just know she will not only learn from fantastic professors, but the entire experience is a once in a lifetime chance. I wonder if you could let me know what happens down the line? You know, I'm also a graduate of R.I. College (went for my BS in nursing right after Barrington) and I still LOVE getting my quarterly alumni magazine from Gordon more. It has so much more value and substance to it. They just truly care about their students, staff, alumni. I can't say enough about it.

So sorry she was deferred, but so happy her attitude is in the right place.

There are many tips on collegeconfidential.com for how to turn your deferral into an acceptance.

Good luck in the spring :cheer2:

DS has been accepted to Ohio State, University of Connecticut and we just found out last night Northeastern University! We are so excited for him! Northeastern awarded him $11,000 per year  .

He's still waiting to hear from Univ of Maryland (his first choice - probably won't hear until mid-Feb), Univ of Illinois and Univ of Mass - Amherst. He's happy though and would be fine attending any of the schools he's already been accepted to. It's nice to know that applications are long since done and now he can focus on scholarship apps!

I asked if he's told friends at school and he said he always gets overshadowed by classmates who have gotten into MIT, Columbia, Tufts, Yale, etc. Luckily DS was never interested in those schools but he certainly appreciates how difficult they are to get into.

University of IL decisions are on line as of last Friday. He should get a letter as well any day now.

My daughter got accepted at Loyola, Augustana and U of IL--Urbana Champaign, but got deferred for U of WI-Madison. Not sure which direction she is going to go yet.
