I must be terrible at search terms, because I'm sure I've seen the answer to this on the board somewhere but i can't find it. What time does the earliest ferry leave to MK? We could take the bus if needed, but I think my kids would get a kick out of taking the ferry. I'd like to get to MK significantly before it opens, to catch the opening show and get in lines quickly.

The boat directly to the MK begins running at 830 for a 9 opening. An earlier option is take to resort launch to the contemporary and then walk over to MK. The walk only takes 10-15 minutes. The resort boat begins running around 645 am.

Basically what G719 says.

The small boat (think Jungle Cruise size) runs between FW, Wilderness Lodge, and the Contemporary beginning early in the morning so guests can get a breakfast meal at the other resorts. Riding it to the CR and walking to the MK gate can get you there in plenty of time. Here is the sign from the Fort dock.

The bigger boats that run directly from the Fort to the MK first arrive at the Fort about 40 minutes before rope drop and get you there about 15-20 minutes before. We've taken this several times to catch the pre-rope drop show at the Mk train station. Here is the MK boat sign at the Fort dock.

Since you used the word "significantly", I would suggest taking the earlier, smaller boat to the Contemporary and walk to the MK gate before rope drop.

Nice pictures! We need to keep those on the front page.

To be fair, sometimes the preshow goes off a few minutes early.

We have always seen the show when we take the big boat but a few others have reported missing it when it started early.

So the big boat does not offer 100% success.

And remember that you have to go thru bag check before hand, so plan accordingly. The earlier the better, we always made pre show and rope drop, while taking the small boat. One day they did not do the show before opening while we were there. Just let everyone in to the park.
