If you checkin earlier, a few weeks before, does that increase your odds of getting the building location you requested? Or is it the same as waiting until a week before?

It’s all a guessing game imho.
Here’s hoping you get the location you’d like.
I do think that your chances Increase if you arrive earlier rather than late to the resort.
If you don’t like what u got.. better chance to change it up!

Room plans are typically assigned a few days before arrival, so having your preference listed before then gives you a better shot than not. Still not guaranteed, but it's better than nothing.

Online Check-in may allow you to indicate your preferences and approximate time of arrival but does not really increase your odds of getting the exact building / room of your dreams.

The best way to increase your odds is to have your preferences listed in your reservation. Don't mess them up by using the limited or generic options listed for Online Check-in. Get to the front desk as early as possible once you arrive at the resort and have the CM confirm your assigned room meets most of your requests. This allow would allow you to request another room if the resort is not booked at 100%.

It never hurts to ask politely and being flexible as to how soon you actually get your room , the front desk may not have a matching room at that moment, there may be a better match after mouse-keeping finishes cleaning the remaining "check-out" inventory.
