Ear piercing for 10 year old DD

Taking children to a peditrician to get their ears pierced? And here I thought they were doctors.

Our daughter had hers done at our ped's office. It seemed to be the safest of all the places to get it done.

My daughter has her ears pierced at Claire's when she was 5. They did the dots and all but once pierced it was obvious they were not even. I was so worried about what to do but at their reccomendation we just took out the one earring that was in the wrong spot waited a week went back and had that ear re-pierced. I was worried that she might not want to do it again but even though she was a little nervous she was a champ and made it through fine and has perfectly pierced ears now.

My DD got hers done at Claires when she was three. She BEGGED to have it done, and was nervous... she started to cry a bit, and the girls doing it told her that after it was done she could have a sucker.. they did it, she SCREAMED... and through her screaming was asking for her sucker. :lmao::lmao: She loves it, and Clair's did a great job. :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. I still haven't decided where to take her. I called a local jewelery store where we know the owner but she only has 1 gun. She recommended Claire's too. I called the local one and they can do both ears at the same time. I'm still not sure what to do. I might call my dermatologist's office and see if they do ear piercing.

I got my first piercing using hoops called "sleepers" in 4th grade. They were hoops that you put on your ears and they eventually went through. I had to keep turning them. I don't think they make them anymore.

My roommate at college (a nursing major) did my second set. She used syringes from the nursing lab.

I had the third set done at Claire's in the mall.

Given all that you wouldn't think I'd be obsessing about where to get DD's ears done! :rotfl2:

LOL and I was afraid to post how we used to do ours when we were young if mom & dad said no.....with a sewing needle, a potato & rubbing alcohol! :scared1:

I have double holes and at one point had a cartilage as well, so no stranger to ear piercing. All mine were done at Claire's, and I only ever had one problem. But it definitely makes me pause to recommend any place that uses a gun:

The last time I had it done, the gun actually misfired and the earring became stuck. The problem was it was already in my ear. It took several minutes for them to extricate the earring from the gun (the entire time it was in my ear which of course now had a nice new hole in it) and then I had to have that hole done over. I never even thought about something like that happening. The chances are probably pretty slim, but it's out there. You would not have that problem with a hollow needle.

I had mine done at Walmart when I was about to turn 16. (Family rule was you had to be 16 to get your ears pierced) They're even. I'm actually wearing my piercing studs right now. I have very sensitive ears, getting more sensitive as I get older, and if I wear even my nice earrings for more than a few hours my ears get red and itchy. So back to the piercing studs or another pair with surgical steel. No matter where you go, I'd recommend getting surgical steel studs. These have never bothered me in 13 years of wear. My friend had both ears done at the same time and they are uneven, so it's a possibility whether you get one ear done at a time or both. For a child, though, it might be a good idea to pierce them simultaneously.

Thanks everyone! We went to Claire's last night and both DDs got their ears pierced. DD7 actually went first and then DD10. They look great.

We got the flower shaped earrings with surgical steel posts. DD7's have multi-colored petals and DD10's are like daisies with a blue center.

Thanks again!
