We flew cross country last year and my husband had a terrible time with ear pain. At one point in the flight he spoke to the flight attendant about it and she said they use a Vicks inhaler to eliminate the pain problem. You may have a sinus infection or cold coming on and not know it or fluid in your ears. We got some and used it prior to and during acent and desent ........ never had anymore problems on flights. We both use it,...... so just incase something is going on. And no side effects at all. I don't know about a little one..if they would like to sniff it. Years ago when we went to Dineyland both of our kids got bad ear pain coming down. They had gum but it didn't help..then the attndant gave us something,....if I remember right it was that Afrin Nasal Spray...Does that sound right to anyone???? I am pretty sure that was it ...The kids were about 8 and 10 at the time I think. Hope that I have been some help.

Sue -- when you say "Vicks Inhaler", what do you mean??? All I can think of is the 'tub of rub' that everyone can smile a mile away......

The Vicks Inhalers are these little plastic tube things that you hold up to your nostril and sniff. Yes they smell kinda like vicks but you don't put it on... so nobody else smells it. It would be with the cold remedy stuff...it is about the size of chapstick.

Sue: Now I know what you are talking about!!! One more question, though... when did you use the inhaler?? At takeoff & landing??? Before??? (I had a REALLY bad time the last time I flew-- thought I was having an annurism (sp?)The pressure was sooo bad that I couldn't even see for a while! VERY scary!! I want to make sure that I do everything possible to prevent another occurrence.... Thanks for the help!

We got the earplanes to try this trip as well as sudafed for my 5 year old who really had a time last year with the pain. Might get the Vick's as well, I know mydaughter would not use it though.

Hey Hi again...I am pretty new to all this and haven't ever been to WDW so I am absorbed on this dumb web tv thing nite and day it seems. I am enjoying it but I best get it under control soon. I think I am somewhat obsessive compulsative..yeah, I guess I am.
Anyway, we use them prior to and all during take-off and landing...just to be sure. You know a sniff every now and then. Give it a try...and I hope it will help you too.!

Try Claritan or Nasonex (by prescription), and or any mentholiptis gum, mint, etc! Also, taking a few aspirins prior to boarding will help the pain!

For the little ones, Benadryl a half hour prior to boarding will open up there noses and nasil passages, it will also make them relaxed and may sleep through flight.

If you have an infant, the best thing is to feed them through a bottle. The suction opens and closes the ears. A little Benadryl (check with md) works well along with the bottle....

Hope this helps. L

Thanks for all the advice!!! I'm going to try some of these things....
