Ugh! I took my son to the doctor today. I had also taken him on Monday. Seems he has an ear infection. Again. The last one was two weeks ago. He took his meds but that dang infection came back. My DD had an ear infection two weeks ago as well. I sure hope she doesn't catch it again. I don't think I can handle drugging BOTH of my kids with pink antiobotic goo for 10 more days. My DS is tough enough. It's like I'm going into the war zone every time I break out the bottle.

This time I had it flavored - watermelon - so I'm going to try and mix it into some strawberry milk and see if I can trick the little sucker. Otherwise, I've got to wear my hard hat and face mask to avoid his little fists and him spewing that goo all over my face.

Wish me luck!

If they had ear infections 2 weeks ago then what ever they were on didn't work. They should be given something else (ask for a chewable if your kids eat regular food).

my little one has an ear infection almost every month and she's already had tubes put in. she will take the pink medicine but not the white. If I have too much trouble giving it to her, her doctor will offer a shot. The shot seems to last her longer but I do not like requesting one, so it's not too often that she gets one.

My dd had chronic ear infections when she was young and it was so awful. I didn't want to do tubes so my ped put her on a low dose antibiotic for 3 months. She's never had one since. She was the WORST about getting medicine down her and we fought everytime. We found that we had to put her on her back on the floor, pin her arms under our legs (not hurting her just so she couldn't move them) and then when she'd start to cry or scream we'd take the dropper, get it into position and then blow in her face at the same time as we put the med in her mouth. The air made her suck in and down the meds went. Our ped showed us how to do it and it did work. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. We are dealing with our 2nd bout of strep so hopefully by Christmas it will be gone.

Best of luck to you and I hope your little guy feels better soon.

yikes..I feel for you. I just had DD16 at the ENT today. She is on her 4th ear infection since August and this last one she has been taking Augmentin XR for 4 weeks, It is getting better, but not 100% yet. They did a hearing test and she has a minimal amount of hearing loss, which may or may not be from thickening of the ear drum. It could be from fluid behind the ear drum too. He wants to check her in a month to see if the fluid has cleared up. If not, he may want to do the tubes again. She has had chronic ear problems since she was a baby and had the tubes done twice, and had her tonsils and adenoids removed already. I had been hoping she would have outgrown it by now!!

Did the Dr give your son the same meds as last time? Ususally they go for something a little stronger. Zithromax works well for my youngest DD who is a horror to give medicine to ~ it's only 5 doses.

Hope your DS feels better soon and if it's any consolation ear infections are not contagious, so hopefully your DD won't get another one!

Good luck! I know what your going through..lol My third DD had ear infections from 4 months - 10 months old, after finally going through every type of antiobiotic that wouldnt get rid of them they finally put tubes in at 10 months old. They fell out about a year and a half later, she immediatly got another ear infection so they put them back in, her second set is still in place and she is 6 years old. The first year of her life was full of screaming and crying due to colic & ear infections, it was so much fun ( NOT)

The doc put my son on augmentin this time around. Last time it was amoxocilin. I'm hoping the augmentin does the trick. Fingers crossed.

Oh and hydster, I will probably be trying your "pinning" method tomorrow morning. Thanks for the advice!
