Ear Candling - WOW!!

Just don't light the bed on fire, like I almost did. I friend and I tried this, and a spark flew off and singed the sheet. It started burning really quickly, LOL! :rotfl2:

This is exactly how DH's dr usually handles it and DH has a problem with excessive wax. Always has. :) Ear candling sounds really..I don't know..dangerous. What if you set fire to your ear hair? :earseek: :earboy2:

TOV

The flame is nowhere near your ear so it would be impossible to set your ear hair on fire.

It is Fake. There is no way a person could have as much wax as what those produce.I have tried it on diffrent things and the same thing happened.Dont waste your money.

Well, I disagree. I've had a problem with that left ear for a long time now, so maybe it was the wax down in there that has been causing the problems who knows. One ear produced very little residue in the candle, so if it were "fake" I would have to believe that both cones would have had the same (or close to the same) amount of residue in them.

So, do you think all that stuff posted above is untrue?

I'm sure that the heat might make your ear feel better but I am just wondering if when you read the stuff above that proves that it's not wax/could not be wax coming out why do you not believe it? Just curious, because it can be unhealthy apparently?

I don't believe everything I read on the internet. Plain and simple.
I've seen numerous things online that say vitamins don't work either. If it's not an FDA approved product, then it apparently doesn't work (according to many).

I know it was ear wax, not candle wax in that cone. I bet if I took it to the doctor, he would tell me that was ear wax. Maybe I should've saved it and had him examine it LOL. If you saw it, you would probably agree (or maybe not since you are set on the fact that it is a fake process).

:)

Did you read my friend's post earlier in this thread (he posted under my name) about the experiment he did? Quackwatch is also pretty good at detecting fakes. Not everyone is against different means of curing things. I think one of the studies did actually examine the wax and found it to be purely candle wax.

Well, then maybe it depends on the type of ear candle you use, who knows. I'm sure there are ones out there that only burn the wax from the candle and do nothing more. I do know that it wasn't candle wax in the cone. It was a completely different color than the candle to even be candle wax and the fact that there was so much from the left ear compared to what was so little from the right ear just confirms that it wasn't candle wax.

I'm really not going to argue it anymore. If you are against it, don't do it and move along :)

Never heard of it and it sounds so gross, I've now got the heebie jeebies! EWWW!

I really wasn't trying to argue, I just was curious as to the reasoning for not believing the tests that have been done on it, that's all? There are many "alternative" things that I have tried but once I see some proof to the contrary, I do move along.

I really dont care if you disagree or not,I am stating the Facts. So you go ahead and spend 10.00 each time and continue giving them your money.
The candle wax has other things in it too to make it look like ear wax. What do you call the piowder substance in the cones? They probably make them all a little diffrent so each one is not the same.

This is true.

I do not think that getting nasty is really necessary. Some of us are users, some of us do not believe it works. Can't we all just be civil?

I am much more prone to use methods suggested by my eastern doctor than my western doctor, though I use both and am very open with them about the methods I am using. It works for me. For me, the ear candles help to dry out my ears, which is my specific issue. It works for me. If it doesn't work for you, or if you'd rather not try it because of what you have read, that is fine with me. I'll not attack you for your beliefs.

i tried it not too long ago and was amazed..my hubby he just didnt believe it..so we took one of the candles and burned it the same way out of our ear and guess what...there was that stuff that looked like ear wax!!!...i was so bummed out cause i thought i had found something really cool to help with my ears but nope...just another fake.. :guilty:

I think everyone *is* being civil. Just because some strongly disagree doesn't equal nasty. I'm not for one minute doubting that the OP and you find relief with the ear candling. I do believe that there is some mechanism/process associated with the candling that makes your ear feel better. The 'drying out' theory makes sense and I'm sure that the candle/heat/vapor or whatever is causing some type of reaction. My only disagreement, based on fact, is that this is NOT wax coming out of the ear. I have seen wax removed from the ear by other means--severely impacted wax--and it is nowhere near the amount, color, etc., of what people see when they candle.

Does anyone have any good suggestions for removing earwax other than candling?

When my daughter says her ear hurts... I break out the candles! They WORK! Can't remember the last time I actually had to take her to the Dr for an ear issue, cause the candles take care of em! ;)

dangit. Why did I just spend 5 min posting to a thread somebody dug up from the grave?

I just discovered these things this year, and I think they work great!! I even bought a set for dh who has clogged ears due to wax more than most people, and he thought they worked good, too.

BTW, I was with a group of friends, and we also tried burning one that wasn't in someone's ear. It was definitely not the same stuff.

I wonder what the people who claim they are not safe are using....the only other method I've seen is basically BLASTING the ball of wax out of your ear, and I'm sure we can pull up many links on why using Waterpiks and other types of high pressure water are unsafe to the eardrum. I guess the alternative is leaving the impacted wax in there. :confused3
