A kid that works for DH has invited us to his Eagle Scout ceremony. I don't know much about it but I do know it's a really big deal. What do we bring him for a gift? If a check, how much? PS-I don't want to break the bank.

My kids are big into scouts, and I don't think this is a gift-giving occasion. At least I've never been aware of gifts.

I disagree with the previos poster. I see this as a give giving occasion. My family is really into scouts and I know the hard work that goes into earning the honor of being an Eagle Scout. I would give probably 20 - 40 dollars depending on how well you know him. When my brother got his most of the gifts he got were things that made ppl think about him and a lot of stuff eagle related. But I think money is nice and is a nice gesture on your part.

Go to the scout shop, they have nice Eagle stuff. If you don't have a store near you you can go on line.

I'm sure money is nice but it isn't something that will truly help commemorate such a significant event.

If you can find a gift related to his project that would be nice. You don't have to give the gift that day, so maybe you can take time to give it more thought.

Becoming an Eagle Scout is a huge honor and it demonstrates a great deal about this young man's character.

Even if it's just an inspirational book by someone known for their dedication to helping others, it will definitely show more thought than a few dollars.

Keep thinking!

I agree. A check is best.

I'd say if he were family, maybe I would consider a monetary gift, and even then maybe not. I think a nice "congrats" card is sufficient in this case though.

My son just earned his Eagle:goodvibes . He got mostly cash gifts. Anywhere from $20.00 from other scout families to $100.00 from his grandparents. I, personally, do not feel as though gifts are necessary. It's not like it's a graduation or birthday.

I know when I got my Girl Scout Gold Award, which is the equivalent to an Eagle Scout, I didn't receive any gifts except from the Girl Scouts themselves. I don't think a gift would be necessary. Maybe a congratulations card would work? If you do feel compelled to give something maybe a giftcard?

Thanks everyone. I checked out this site and found sone nice things, thanks!

I will have my third Eagle Scout here in a few weeks. It is a huge deal! A friend's son just made Eagle and we bought him a round coin Eagle Scout Swiss Army knife and took it to Things Remembered to have it engraved with his initials. Before gift bag and card we spent $55. Most folks that came to my boys' ceremonies gave anything from Eagle Scout key chains to REI gift cards. Not one person has ever just given a card unless they were just "troop friends". Anyone invited specially by us has brought a gift of some size.
