Eagle Scout Ceremony

My nephew isbecoming an Eagle Scout. does anyone know what to give as a gift.

I would get him a nice pocket knife, most guys never can have too many of those, and have the blade engraved with the date or some nice sentimate. One of my favorites is the latin phrase "Ad Astra" few enough letters to fit almost anywhere, it means "To the Stars", so it wishes sucess and congrats at the same time.

Go to scoutstuff.org and see what they have for eagle scouts....you might find something.

Usually, they give them something with an eagle on it....throw...statue...pillow.

Do you have a local Scout Shop? Our Scout Shop has some great Eagle items. I got my nephew a leather ball cap with an Eagle on the front. They also carry a selection of "eagle-specific" gifts: shirts, belt buckles, knives, scrapbooks, frames, coins, keyrings, etc, as well as wrapping paper, gift bags and cards, all with the Eagle logo.

I have 2 eagle scouts and soon to be a 3rd. Both of my sons had people give them a flag that our congressman had flown over the US Capital. I think they aren't too expensive depending on the size of the flag. I did a quick search and I saw a congressman in R.I. had the order form on his website with the prices displayed. The most expensive on his site was $24.95. The flag is flown for the scout and then it comes folded and presented to them with a certificate.

Straight from my scouts' mouths....Money!!! They both said they have enough knives after being in scouts for years, they don't/won't wear necklaces, and that most of the Eagle Stuff is just that "stuff" that collects dust. They'd rather have money for trips and other things they are looking forward to doing. YMMV

On a side note I found it odd that the scout knife that is linked above is a lockback knife which is not allowed in Scouting....at least not in our area.

Now if I hadn't asked the boys I'd have agreed with the flag that is flown over the Capital, sounds cool to me.

Thank you everyone. I really appreciate all of your ideas. I am at a total loss when it comes to scouting. My son is not involved in scouts at all so I had no idea what to do. My other sister-in-law also asked me what to do. i knew that you guys would have an answer. I really love the flag idea. Thanks!

Our troop presents the flag to the Eagle Scout at the ceremony. So you many want to check and see if he would be receiving a flag from the troop. My son did get mostly money. He also received an Eagle Scout belt buckle and an Eagle Scout coin.

Our troop has always presented the flags to the Eagle Scout. Better check...
