OK been back a week now and I think it's high time to sort out the next trip in November, we have our cruise booked so we're looking for a villa, we are trying to cut down the cost a little and looking for somewhere at a good price!

I have found a villa at eagle point on poinciana blvd, I know it's a little down the 192 but for the price seems like a bargain.
Anyone stayed in this area? Indian pointe is also right next to this sub division. I'm feeling a little nervous as we've never stayed down this side of the 192.

Hi,

I have stayed down Poinciana a few times, at Indian Point and Cumbrian Lakes.
I have also driven around Eagle Pointe and it is nice, although there are a few developments I prefer.
Most are quite close to one another and the 3 above plus Liberty Village all in a row virtually.

To be honest I do prefer the Formosa Gardens area, whilst Poinciana is located well for a nearby Publix and restuarants it is a busy road and a good 10 minutes or so from the junction of the 192 to these villas.

In addition and to be honest if I was to stay down Poinciana again it would only be at Terre Verde or Cumbrian Lakes. Both gated communities and (in my opinion) nicer than the others down here.

Don't get me wrong, Eagle Pointe is a pleasant place to stay especially if you have found a villa you like. I don't think you will be dissapointed if you stay there.

It's the location i'm more worried about to be honest than the actual villa, the villa looks nice enough and has the hot tub and pool table we were looking for.

We usually stay on the US27 somewhere and we love that location, whilst others find it to far from disney it has never been an issue for us.
How far in relation to the US27 and disney is the distance between eagle pointe and disney?

to get to disney all you do is go from eagle point onto ponciana boulevard and then when you get to the junction where the 192 is just cross straight over the 192 -you are still on ponciana and then to your left just further along the road is a turning and a toll to go onto the osceola parkway, which takes you straight into the wdw area. i would say about 20 mins or so from your villa to wdw-its quite a straght forward route, the toll is 75 cents
hope this helps

I would say the distance is about the same, it probably would depend on where you stayed or are staying on the US27 as the developments can be quite spread out.
It would be definitely quicker though if you were based near the Formosa Gardens area.

To be honest that is not necessarily why we choose to stay around FG, we have always stayed either there or down Poinciana - I just prefer to be closer to the junction of the 192, closer to the Outback steakhouse :) and just generally a few small reasons why I prefer it including the relatively long drive down Poinciana Boulevard.

Terre Verde was actually high on our list of places to stay this August but we just found a villa that suited us better at Windsor Palms.

If you know the address of the villa I would be happy send you a pm with the link to the 'live maps' website, it is brilliant for overhead aerial views and you can actually go down Poinciana and find the villa, it may help you decide? It's kind of like Google Earth only better.

We stayed at Cumbrian Lakes back in 2003. Like you I was concerned about the travelling distances, but I was pleasantly surprised. From memory, Cumbrian Lakes was 4 miles from the 192, but it's a very easy, pleasant drive and it wasn't an issue for us at all. As Netty says, you don't need to contend with the 192 at all - you simply cross it to reach the Osceola Parkway. That road takes you directly onto Disney property (at its bottom right-hand corner near Pop Century and Wide World of Sports), although you do have to pay a toll to join it. If you normally use the Sherberth Road shortcut, you'll be familiar with the Osceola Parkway.

As you're used to staying on the US27, you really won't have a problem with the drive - it's very straight-forward and we enjoyed the change of scenery and the opportunity to familiarise ourselves with another area. There's a good Publix (Poinciana Place store) at the junction with the 192.

We stayed at Eagle Pointe in January, and have done on two other occasions, the drive to WDW is very simple from there, we didn't even get on the toll road, the TOM TOM sent us a great way that took tops 15 minutes. In rush hour you are looking at about 30 mins though. The Villas at Eagle Pointe are about 15 years old I believe, the villas are well located with regards to the 192, there is a Walmart Superstore at the top of the road, or if you come out the other side of the community you can get to the other end of the 192, and all the usual restaurants.

One thing that I really liked about Eagle Pointe is that it isn't predominently a rental community and many houses are owned and lived in by americans, this was reassuring to us and it was lovely to say good morning to the family who lived next door to "our house" each day. I have stayed on some estates where the houses are all rental and it's like a ghost town! A bit eery too sometimes!

I would fully recommend Eagle Pointe as a great place to stay, I must admit that I "drove" from the villa to Disney at the weekend on Google Maps, why don't you do that? You can get a great idea of where they are all situated.

Ive stayed all around that area for many years - sorry wouldnt entertain US27 area, but you know everyone to their own.
Im at Cumbrian Lakes this year, but Ive even stayed at Crescent Lakes, Buenaventura Lakes and Hunters Creek and it wasnt a problem. Take the route that my sil Netty has suggested and you really will be a disneys door before you know it.
Happy holidays

We stayed at Eagle Point the first time we rented a villa two summers ago and liked the area. It's nice and quiet, well looked after.

The drive down Ponciana is nice enough, again. It's almost out in the country when you reach the Eagle Point end:)

In all honesty I don't know why I'm even asking!! :confused3 I'm never usually to bothered.

We know where Ponciana is pretty well as we always travel down there to go to the blockbusters at the lights, aswell as smokey bones. Plus our fav walmart is just up the road. Even when we stay at disney we travel down that way to walmart and publix and have often used osceola parkway especially when staying at AK.
I was more worried how far down Ponciana on the other side of the 192 it is? I've had a look at google earth and it looks quite far, but you can't really tell.

Thanks everyone

I still reckon it's about 10 minutes, maybe a little more if it's busy.
Please don't get me wrong, it is not an unpleasant drive it is just having stayed at Indian Point and Cumbrian Lakes the daily drive there and back after a while personally became less enjoyable, especially if you go out and return a few times each day like we tend to do.

I do agree with what others have said but for me not having to drive up and down Poinciana every day is one of the main reasons we choose the Formosa Gardens location.
I don't think PB is a bad location, just I think FG is perfect, but again 'Trip Planning Forum moral' = "we all have different opinions would be boring if we all liked the same thing"

we find Indian wells to be in the perfect location for us, as its right behind walmart on the 535 close to the 192 and close to buena vista mall and then on to either dtd or seaworld areas

We've stayed on Indian Pointe on several visits and find it to be the best location for us. There is a back road to Walmart for 24 hour shopping and it's less than 10 minutes to the 192 and another 10 to WDW.

We'll be back there at Christmas (TCD allowing) and as the villas tend to be a few years older down there you can usually get a very good deal (£700 for 2 weeks in a four bed villa with pool and hottub, TCD would want that for a week).

The only problem we've found is that we're the wrong end of the 192 for our favourite Ponderossa, but there's so much choice in the area that we don't really mind.
