DD9 wants ez-bake oven and food for Christmas :)
Is it possible to use regular cake mixes instead of having to buy the special e-z bake food packets? I'm thinking they could get pretty expensive.
Hoping some of you have some advice

I got a recipe book for kids and easy bake ovens off of Amazon when I bought my daughter's oven. They are very helpful and very inexpensive!

good luck!

I think it was a breakdown of 1/3 of the cake mix. My DD11 wanted one last year and used it the first few months and she's never used it since.

I second the Jiffy mix idea. They're cheap, so if you don't use the whole box, it's not as big a waste.

I know kids like this kind of thing, but for my dd by the time she was 9 she was baking full size mixes and things. I put it in the oven and took it out to prevent her getting burned, but she much prefered using my stuff as opposed to a kiddie sized version. Lots cheaper and can be made for the whole family. Another way of easing them into cooking for the entire family.:thumbsup2

Maybe you could make her up a package with an adult type apron and some mixing bowls and mixes for the same price as the oven.

Thanks for the link and ideas. We just bought our DDs one for Christmas. I bought a 12 pack for $13 at TRU but was wondering the same thing.

I agree, . My dd10 LOVES to cook and she and I watch the food network and come up with recipes for the whole family. Much better use of your (and her) time then messing with the easy bake oven

DD10 has an Easy Bake, she uses it occasionally but we were just talking the other day about giving it to her neice. ;) DD is a cook, she helps me with dinner, we bake together as well. She's been helping me cook since she was 5 or 6, this year I wanted to try to find a good cookbook for her but so far not much luck. We have used the Jiffy mixes and that's what I used as a kid.

I never really like help in the kitchen except from my DH. So the Easy Bake is perfect, she can do her own thing :thumbsup2

Really? Your DH helps in the kitchen? lol DBF won't help in the kitchen...well he will but he's so slow I finally stopped asking. lol DD10 is a better cook's helper then he is. lol We just made 2 loaves of banana bread, it's baking now and OMG it smells heavenly! DD put the eggs & bananas in the blender and blended, she also creamed the shortening and sugar and then she mixed everything all together. She's pretty much awesome like that. lol
But I will say that she does love using the EZ Bake, everything is tiny but she still loves it. :)
