E-Ticket Question - Dopey Me

Okay, so we've got E-tickets with Delta for our October trip. I know that at MHT there is no kiosk to check in with, and we'll have only carry-ons, so we won't be dealing with any skycaps.

Here's where I get lost. Do I have to wait in the big line where people check their luggage, or can I go right to the gate?

And if I go to the gate, how do I get there if I don't have a boarding pass yet?

I read on Delta's web site that I should bring a printed confirmation from their web site...but does that get me to the gate? Is it a boarding pass?

Can anyone explain these E-ticket thingys in language that won't make me any more confused?

it will explain that you can print your own boarding pass right from home.
Be careful what you carry on as they do have size restrictions and also, how much you can lug aboard. This link should address those issues.

Not only size restrictions on Delta now, but also weight restrictions. Your bag can't weigh over 50 pounds, or you have to pay a fee. That really stinks for us because we use to combine our bags and check one larger bag for the 2 of us. Now we have to check 2 smaller bags and this is for checked bags too. Yes the restrictions are pretty tight now for most airlines, but especially Delta where you are allowed one carry-on and one personal item (purse, laptop, camera bag, diaper bag, small backpack). But at least you can check 2 bags per person, so hopefully will make it within the limits. This is only an issue when we go for 15 days, so will be packing the tide and dryer sheets.

It is not just Delta re: carryons, it is a TSA directive, you will find most, if not all, have the same restrictions, and to that I say, Hip Hip Horay!!!! No more getting whacked in the head with the "kitchen sink".

If you are a Skymiles member, you can check in online and print your boarding pass from home if you only have carryon luggage!

DH and I are trying an experiment to see if we can go for a week with just one carry-on each. They're the right size, and shouldn't be too heavy. We'll just have to do a couple of loads of laundry - basically everything in the carryons - but that's no big deal, since we're staying in a one-bedroom at OKW, with the washer/dryer right there!

But then I realized I've never flown without checking a bag, and I had NO IDEA what to do at the airport!

Gail Hayden, thanks for the links - They worked. I had waded around the Delta web site for awhile before, but I couldn't find what I was looking for...you put me right to it.

I think we'll try clkelley's advice and try checking in online before we leave for the airport!

Here's a trick we use. We always do just carry-ons (both kids with loaded backpacks and DH and I with the bigger bags). Once at WDW, we see if we can get a decent box from the gift shop or snack bar. We then fill this with the extra things we can't fit in our carry-ons for the return trip and then mail it home on our last day. Since we go in winter, we throw in our summer vacation clothes and don't miss them for the few days it takes to arrive in MA! I think I had nothing but new Disney stuff in my carry-on for the return trip!

I personally hate checking luggage so this works for us!

I just answered this but it didn't post. If it did forgive me for the duplication! Anyway, if the front desk doesn't handle it they will send you to the mailroom, or UPS pick-up. The food courts seem to have decent size boxes. A lot of people do this so don't be embarassed about asking for the box!
