Now the Kindle is the only one out of the color e-reader market (and Sony, but who counts them :) ). Amazon better get something out and fast! This offers a nice mid-priced ($250) e-reader for those who can't afford the Ipad but want the color capability. I might even convert (never! Kindler forever! lol)

This things seems pretty cool: 8GB memory enough for 6,000 books with removable MicroSD card, color touchscreen, MS office & pdf, jpg support, magazine photos, Pandora Internet radio. Wow, very, very tempting...

Just got that email from B&N, I have the regular Nook but really like the idea of a color one.....I'll have to wait tho, no job means no $$ for a new one. lol Besides, I just got mine in May so I'll be waiting for sure. :)

This announcement pretty much sealed the deal for me- been on the fence, leaning towards a Nook- this pushed me over!! Told DH THIS is what I want for Cmas!

It's only backlit. Color e-ink isn't ready for the market this year.

It will be interesting to see how this Nook does. Readers who have become accustomed to e-ink might find a backlit device hard to use. Others might be disappointed in the lack of features in what is essentially a tablet computer. But for some, it will be the best choice.

Me? I'm a Kindle/iPad girl - Apple and Amazon are both ahead of B&N in my book, so I'm staying with their products.

I saw this earlier this morning. I'm very tempted to get it, but I really need to have 3G. Hopefully they will come out with that.

I did a search after seeing it on the news. It's back lit and "just under a pound." Took the wind right out of my sails.

Why? There are a lot of people that don't want a backlit ereader. Am I missing something?

When there is color E-ink, I'll be interested in it. The only reason I have a Nook, is because it's more convenient to use, and mimics a book's print.

I doubt I will ever read a magazine on a Nook, and I'm a little too old for picture books, so I'll pass on this one.

I agree... I'm a Nooker all the way. And I was SO stinkin excited to hear about the big announcement. And now that it's out, I'm both happy and sad.
Happy that I don't really want one (backlit, lcd-type screen, 8hr non replaceable battery), and sad because I was expecting a color eink display to come out.

So I'll count my blessings that I still love my current Nook and have no worries about replacing it with a new one... :thumbsup2

I don't think Amazon is the only one out of the color ereader market - I think Barnes & Noble is now in the LCD tablet market. They have produced a mid-level LCD screen tablet computer with an integrated ereader function tied to their product. You won't be able to add the Kindle App for NookColor!

Reading on an LCD screen is a personal choice - if you can do it comfortably there are many, many choices out there in the marketplace for you.

If you want to read on e-ink, though, it's Amazon or Barnes & Noble. You need to make your choice based on the features of each reader and the available titles and Customer Service departments of the two companies.

I honestly think this is a huge mistake for B&N. My reasoning goes as such: They just made a cheap version of an iPad that doesn't have nearly as many features. Yes, it's color. How many of the books you read are in color? Unless this is meant to be a children's ebook reader (and at that price I hope now!) color doesn't matter nearly as much as readability in my book. The niche that e-readers had was the e-ink screen. That was their most important feature. And the nook just went and tossed it out the window.

I have a kindle and I love it. But even the couple hours I've spent on the computer since i got to work today are killing my eyes. I can't imagine trying to read on a back lit screen when I'm reading novels. It would give me the worst headache. That's why I don't just download a reading ap for my laptop or the like.

Plus that battery life is horrible. I'd hate to have to recharge it so regularly.

I really can't see the a backlit color screen being a huge seller. There are several similar lower priced tablets hitting the market now. Amazon so far doesn't seem interested in LCD and of course once you start playing around with that you are taking on Apple and the iPAD.

I suspect we'll begin to see color eInk and Mirasol eReaders in 2011. Hopefully reasonably priced.

I think people will rush out to buy them, simply because it's the 'new thing', but really, unless you have young children, who really needs this?

I can count how many times I've actually browsed book covers on my Nook (which are in color), on two fingers. I think reading a newspaper on the Nook is cumbersome at best, and it seems a magazine, with all of its pictures would be even more difficult.

The only thing I can see this being good for, would be textbooks, but even then, my youngest daughter's are already all scanned online.

Color doesn't do anything for me with an eReader becasue I don't subscribe to eMagazines. My paper books are in b/w, therefore I'm fine with an eReader that's b/w. I'll stick with my Kindle for now.

The only reason for me to get excited about this is because I'm hoping it means a good deal on the eink Nook for black Friday! :cool1:

I LOVE reading magazines digitally - but I read them on my iPad. If I'm going to buy something that has a color LCD screen I'd rather spend the extra money and get a fully functioning tablet that lets me get apps for other readers or services.

I think the Kindle/iPad combination is perfect for me!
