I'm taking my laptop over to the US (End of this week YAY!) mainly so that I can download my daily photos from my digital camera.

It would seem a shame not to send a few 'wish you were here' e-cards back to wind a few friends & family up but I'm in a quandry what's the best way to do it!

I can use my mobile as a modem (via the IR link) but that will be expensive when sending big photo files

I can buy a US modem cable for about a fiver but has anyone experimented with data calls and a pre-paid phonecard service.

Failing this I could always plug straight into the phonejack at the villa but this would be about $1.50 a minute i'm told.

Please help in a hurry!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
The easiest way for you to do it is via the phone jack in the Villa.
Go to Access 4 Free
Download the software off their site, you should be able to get a local access number that is free of charge, if your Villa owner is offering ONLY free calls you will not be able to connect to a number that you have to pay for anyway.
basically it is just another account that you will have on your laptop.
Failing all that, go into a 7/11 somewhere whilst over there and pick up a Sprint Internet access CD they have them at every shop and instal through that, again local calls that will not be charged for, although you will have to cough up about $10 or so for the access on both of these providers.

Cheers Elle

Seems easy enough to setup.

Just gotta hope my local Comet is still stocking the US modem jack lead!!!
