I've considered selling some things but I'm wary. I've heard so many horror stories on this board! What I want to know is, is it worth it? I will basically be selling stuff I have laying around the house. I don't have a lot of time but I don't want the hassle of a yard sale either. I don't think we have enough stuff for a yard sale anyway. I thought if I could do an auction here and there on my time schedule and at my pace it would be easier to handle. I don't expect to make a fortune, but a few hundred bucks over the course of six months or so will come in handy. Have most of your experiences been positive, or is the hassle more trouble than it's worth?

Hi! I'm about a month into my ebaying experience. I started off buying some items to get a feedback score and then started listing 5-8 items a week. I have been pleased overall. I only lost money on my very first purchase - I sent the money and the item never came and the seller got kicked off of ebay in the middle of my payment clearance time.

I sell stuff (mostly girls clothes, toys, games, and books) from home and have made a few good Goodwill purchases to sell. It definitely pays more than garage sales although I'm absolutely not getting rich! I think it's really worth it. I'm at home right now for the first time ever and have lots of time on my hands. I do like the feature on ebay that lets you create your listings ahead of time and set the time/day you wish to list for a very small fee. Ebay is fun and addictive!! Give it a try! :flower:

I sell just to make a little extra money for Disney. I have been doing pretty well just by selling old stuff around the house. I did really well selling the girls' old clothes when it was back to school time. I am doing well now selling the girls' toys that I cleaned out of their closets to make room for new toys from Santa. I only list about 6 or 8 auctions at a time and I do it maybe every other week. I might have a few more at peak times like back to school or Christmas. It is nice to make extra money. Between eBay and rebating, I will be able to pay for our whole cruise next summer (4 night non-Disney cruise).

I listed some items and the first day got a bid, now with 1 day to go she wants to cancel the bid because she found something else!!!!!!!!!!!! This is what is so frustrating with Ebay buyers, they are clueless. Can you deny this?

First I want to say there are way more positive eBay experiense than not, and I'm saying that with over 5200 positives (plus many other sales where no feedback has been traded). But on a board like this, when people look for advice when something goes wrong, it stands to reason you will see more bad. This would be a pretty boring board, if I came on and announced everytime I had a "good" sale LOL!

Yes, I deny this. 99.99% of my ebay clients aren't not clueless. It's just that those that are are frustrating. And this person I wouldn't even call clueless, just rude. Hopefully you had other biders on the item.

Hey Ceecee- I can relate, but can also deny this. I started out on this board shortly before I started selling on ebay, and ran to them, on when one of my first bids on on one of my first items, when the person also wanted it canceled! It was an expensive saddle and I was so upset. But with encouragement from family and folks here, I kept on, and well, I sold that saddle, and looks like I am going to sell another very expensive one too. Plus I have sold quite a few things on top of these in 6 weeks.

I bought on ebay and loved it as a buyer. I have had excellent experiences. As a seller, it has been a little tougher. Things haven't always gone as high I expected. I got a neg from a nasty person, who never even let me know she was unhappy with them item. I lost money on the first thing I sold, due to misrecording the weight on shipping. Not everything sells. It can be time consuming doing the listing. But lots of things do sell, and when the money comes in and the item is gone it is a great thing. It is also very fun. Have you ever been to an auction? It has similar type of excitement.

DMRick, with over 5200 FB, seems to still like people, so that type of 'long term study' says it all! ANd her point that lots of the problems end up posted here I think is dead on. This is where folks come for advice, and to vent!

These are some of my thoughts. Good luck in your decision!
