Is renting points through an E-bay auction with a Square Trade certificate safe or should I beware of a scam? The price is $750 for Sun- Fri mid summer! Advice needed?

Would need to know the dates of travel and the name of the resort to know if $750.00 is reasonable.

Have you researched this seller? I don't really ever look at things like Square Trade, or Power Seller, or any other fancy label when I buy on eBay, simply because it doesn't tell me what I need to know.

I research their feedback and how many transactions they've completed and what they've sold. I also look to see how long they've been selling and whether or not they have ever sold anything else that would cost as much as what I'm bidding on. I am not about to turn over hundreds of dollars to someone that is brand new to eBay or has several negative feedback.

Just curious, but have you checked the Rent/Trade forum right on this board to rent points? Lots of DVC owners rent their points here.

It depends on the resort, but it's definitely a Studio for 5 nights.

If it's at OKW then it's about $13.63 to $15/point, depending on exact dates.

If it's a standard view at BWV, it's $13.63/point.

If it's BWV preferred, VWL, or BCV, it's $10.71 to $11.54/point.

And if it's SSR, then it's $12.50 to $11.54/point.

Here on the DISboards on the Rent/Trade forum, points usually go for $10-$11/point. For example, if it's an OKW studio, you could probably get that here on the DISboards for $500 to $550 depending on dates, at $10/point, or for $550 to $605 (again depending on dates), if you rented from someone at $11/point.

You can check actual point requirements yourself by clicking on the DVC Point Charts link at the top of this page. Once you know the resort, villa type, and dates, see how many points it is, then figure paying about $10-$11/point.

Feedback on EBay can be misleading. As a buyer, I have experienced many merchants who will not give you feedback until you do the same for them, which is not really how it should be done, since a buyer should be given positive feedback first, rewarding them for making prompt payment. As a buyer, I have also been given negative feedback by two merchants to whom I gave negative feedback when I was not satisfied with their merchandise. If I was only concerned about maintaining a good feedback rating, I would not have given them negative feedback, but I did so for the greater good of the EBay community, if you will.
