Dyson vs Oreck

Dyson pros-
NO BAGS!
Deep vacuuming.
Easy turning

Oreck pros- easy transition from hard Wood To carpet.
Lighter
You can add scented discs to the vacuum

Dyson Cons
The "wand" split on mine
Hard to manuever on the stairs

Oreck Cons
BAGS! are expensive!
My cord (electrical plug) split from the machine.

So now I am using the Dyson. I don't LOVE it like others do. It's ok. It's a vacuum. I will say that it seems to really pick up stuff in the carpet.
But the "filter" that never gets clogged. Gets clogged on mine with dog hair.
It's pretty easy to clean- but I do have to clean it out like once a week.

My oreck was just such a pain to get fixed when it broke- only one place serviced it and it took a couple weeks to get it back. So I opted to get a dyson on sale the last time the cord broke.

Having owned them both- I think I might say try a miele?

I've had both. Before my DH brought home the Dyson I vacuumed the whole house with the Oreck.

I had about 1/2 canister full of dirt! I was amazed.

So it does have it's disadvantages but I like how it cleans.

I had a top of the line Oreck and then got a Dyson next. I feel like the Dyson cleans MUCH better.
My original idea was to leave the Oreck upstairs and the Dyson down but our housekeeper prefers the Dyson so much she drags it up the stairs. I figure for the little petite thing to do that, it HAS to be better. Defnitely more heavy.

Love my Oreck. Have had it for about 5 years and wouldn't trade it for anything. Everytime I take it for servicing (tune-up/cleaning and once a repair when it was under warranty) whether it was was when I lived in TX or here in CA the Oreck store called me to pick up my vacum in just a few days.

Interesting thread. :thumbsup2

Currently we have a Dyson and I was debating getting an Oreck for the reason m&m's mom did.

However hearing that the bags are expensive, that really stops me in my tracks. I mean I empty the cannister after each room because of the dog hair.

And I do empty it in the garage for those of you that saw Dr. Oz and he said something about the debris from the cannister being not a healthy thing as opposed to having the debris contained in a bag already.

I wonder if the centralized vac is as good as a dyson or better????

I could have written your post and I agree with it 100%.

I also bought a Kenmore canister that works better than my Dyson or my Oreck and will never go back. I do want to try the Miele soon.

I love my Oreck. My cousin also has one. Oreck always has a sale on bags, if you buy two you get one free. We split the cost and we each get one and a half packs. That lasts me over a year.

I don't have any carpet in my house. That may be why I love mine so much, it works great on carpet and tile. It is so easy to get up and down stairs.

I have a dyson animal because I have 2 dogs and 3 cats. I vacuum daily. It cleans well but I need to cut the fur off of the beater bar about once every 2 weeks. It seems this is a common problem but one I didn't anticipate.

So this time last week I was in your same situation... I ended up buying the new Hover wind tunnel... we love it.... it is great it works like a Dyson with the multiple wind tunnels and it is bag less, it also has a washable filter, so there is no buying filters... it turned my carpets brand new... we have cats and I vacuumed the hair up and the dirt.... I love it... I cleaned like a maniac as soon as I got it....good luck

I don't have either yet but have really researched both. My take on the Oreck is not only are the bags very expensive, and in a house with dogs we would go through them quickly, but they are also made of a non-degradable material that felt akin to diapers. I have a real problem with adding to the land fill that way.

When I can afford it, I will get the Dyson Animal.
