Has anyone ever had their Dyson repaired? My Animal is 5 years old & has lost suction. I clean the filter, I have checked for blockages & holes in the hose. Thee s nothing that I can find wrong, but the suction has become very weak. We did have major construction work done, and while we always cleaned with a shop vac first, the Dyson definately picked up sheetrock dust. I am not sure if that affected the moto, or what the problem is.

Anyway, has anyone ever had a Dyson repaired? I am wondering if it is worth the cost, or if I should buy a new vacuum.

It seems alot of other manufacturers have copied the Dyson design. And most of them are ceaper than Dyson.

Any suggestions or recommendations???

Mine never had suction and I had it repaired three times before they gave me a new one - that didn't have suction. I ended up buying a different vaccuum brand.

replace with a Miele.

dyson has a built in planned fail rate.

friend of the family ownes a vacuum repair shop, the dysons come in more than any brand (according to him) and usually cost twice as much to repair, as dyson dosn't discount parts to repair shops and to fix requires a lot more parts.

we had a dyson that failed after a year or so, bought a miele and it works perfectly.

I was in your exact situation a couple of weeks ago. I even purchased a replacement Dyson at Target because it was on sale and kept the receipt hoping I could return it.

I was able to return it!

My Animal is about 5 years old. I did some Internet research and found some info. about taking some sections apart myself and cleaning. The top section with the dust filtration canister has eight cones in it. Mine were very clogged. You must disassemble the cannister to clean it. When cleaned the suction returned to like new! (I want to be sure in this post it is understood that we used great care and instruction with disassembly. I would not want someone to break theirs based on my advice.)

We (meaning DH) cleaned the bottom HEPA filter, too. I had not done this before. I cleaned the one on the side plenty of times but not the one on the bottom. It cleaned up some, but I just ordered a new one from Dyson today (It wasn't online at the Dyson site (other sites carry them), so I called to order it. The very nice rep said they don't sell it online because usually a technician changes it. But, she was able to sell it to me over the phone (about $30). It really isn't hard to change. In fact, there is a video on You Tube that has a great demo! :thumbsup2

I also found info. to eliminate a bit of a squeal.

My old Dyson works like new. DH was very careful taking it apart so it could be cleaned. Really that is all it needed.

PM me if you would like the notes I found on cleaning.

Good luck with your decision.
