Dying and Disney

You know, for several years now I've wished that there was an organization that helps families have one last vacation together when a parent is terminal. Something similar to Make a Wish or Give Kids the World. How much joy it would bring me to be able to see my kids squeal with glee one last time. Everytime we go to WDW some part trys to say, "You could be doing something else with this money." But then I remind myself that there's nothing I wouldn't do to or give up have those moments of complete joy and leaving the rest of the world behind. My sister-in-law lost a child at an early age, I know she would go back in time and pay triple to watch her todder run to Mickey just once. (or even from! lol)

Oh, my! I'm sitting here in tears reading all of your heart-touching stories.

My mom had a serious of strokes back in May 2010. Her only hope was an experimental surgery. After 14 hours, things seemed to be looking up. However, around Mid-August, it was obvious things were not progressing and she was actually getting worse. It was so hard but we decided to go the hospice route. We had talked about all going to WDW this coming Thanksgiving/Christmas as a celebration of life. Instead, my brother and I went last Christmas to celebrate for everyone. It was so bittersweet to be there with my brother and remembering how much my parents loved each other. We encountered many couples throughout our trip who were celebrating their 40th anniversaries just as my parents would have two months before. We had so many happy yet bittersweet moments. I like to think that my mom was there with us the whole time and enjoying every moment. Hugs to all of you.

Thank you for sharing all of your stories. My Mom will be 84 in March. She has asked to go on "one more last trip". Mommy has been going to Disney since it opened. She is the Disney fan who turned me into a Disney fan. About 5/6 years ago she had me arrange a "last trip" with my brother and his family (she lives with them). We had a great time. Then I arranged another "last trip" when my nephew came home from Iraq and he and his family (3 girls) went to Disney and my mom, sister and I joined them. She told my DH at Christmas that she wanted to make a "last trip" to Disney but was concerned as she is in a wheelchair. DH told her she was in a wheelchair the last two trips and it was fine, what would be different about this trip? So my sister and I are taking her and we will be there at the same time as my niece/nephew and their 4 children (they now have a little boy). We are staying at BLT and we are staying in a castle view. I know it is over the top, but since she tires so easily these days, I am sure she will enjoy sitting on her balcony watching the castle turn colors. & I know that I am blessed to be able to enjoy this trip with her and she is thrilled to be able to share it with her grandaughter and great grandchildren.
