Hi all!
As of now here's what my plan looks like. It's just me and my mom this trip and we are celebrating me applying to medical school and my mom graduating from her BSN program. We are going from 5/26-5/31. Torn if we should buy TIW (mostly because of the alcoholic beverages) or doing DxDDP (mostly because of the many 2 TS credit meals we are attending). Any others with experience? Thanks!

5/26
Be our Guest Lunch - 1 QS
California Grill Dinner - 2 TS

5/27
Kona Breakfast - 1 TS
Trattoria al Forno Dinner - 1 TS

5/28
Rose and Crown Dinner - 1 TS

5/29
Tusker House Breakfast - 1 TS
Hollywood Brown Derby (Fantasmic Package) Dinner - 2 TS

5/30
Cinderella's Royal Table Breakfast - 2 TS
Plaza Dinner - 1 TS

5/31
Via Napoli Lunch - 1 TS

Total: 13 credits of 15 total credits (3 per night on DxDDP) per person

TiW isn't valid for the Fantasmic! package.

Use distripplanner.com to estimate costs and see if it's worthwhile.

I think you'll be better with TiW and OOP. Via Napoli and Plaza are very inexpensive. You have one QS in your plan and 2 meals you won't even use, so you're losing money with those. I don't think Trattoria takes the DDP, so that's a meal you have to pay OOP and one less meal used on your plan. Will you be able to enjoy the 2 snacks per day or will you use them for snacky gifts to take home?

Question on TiW...will you be able to go again and make use of it? You may not be able to recoup the cost of the card with just what you have planned.

Even without TiW, I'd wager you spend less OOP than you would on the DxDDP.

As someone who has done some trips on DxDP and others on TIW, I agree completely with these thoughts.

I would never consider doing the DxDP if I wasn't planning to use all of the credits on TS meals. And, in your case, you have a number of meals that aren't super expensive per credit (most notably the breakfasts, particularly Kona, as well as some of the other meals, particularly the Plaza), which makes the DxDP even less of a value versus paying OOP.

I think you'll find that if you look at the menus and make a rough estimate of what each meal will likely cost, the DxDP will end up costing far more than simply paying OOP, even without TIW (keep in mind that while DxDP includes tax, it does not include tips - so you have to add tip costs to the up-front cost of the DxDP).

I'd also add that you should easily be able to recoup the cost of the TIW card (assuming you qualify for it) with these plans, especially factoring in alcoholic beverages.

I agree with the above posters that you are not making best use of the DxDDP plan. In addition to the calculator, I would recommend you total up what you think you will eat from the posted menus and compare against what you are paying for the plan. Typically the 2TS meals are not a good value on the plan.

We are renting points and I don't think I will purchase the DDP this year for my family of 5A. We have always gotten free dining in the past, so that was a better discount than the room code (during holiday time rooms are not discounted every night). We don't eat the desserts at lunch and I don't at dinner. We do order occasional apps and drinks paying OOP. I am on the fence on the TIW card. For us we would have to save about $400 to break even on the cost of upgrading 1 ticket to AP and then adding the $100. Right now we only have one trip planned this year. Also, a couple of the restaurants we will probably go to on our trip will be subject to blackout dates.

Congratulations to you both on your accomplishments and have a great trip!

I think it would be hard to get value from TIW with only two people unless you are planning a second trip within the year. But since you do have some more expensive meals it might be close, especially if you include any alcohol purchases. We are a group of six, so it is easy for us to benefit from the discount.

I also agree with other posters that I don't think you will get value for the DxDP.
