Are you allowed to pay for an adult dining plan for a child, even if the child is under 10?

For some reason, I thought that was verboten.

I'm just curious... seems like that would be a nice option for families whose kids have more sophisticated palates or bigger appetites.

If you lie when you make your reservations and make your child older . You then also have to pay the adult ticket price for park admission too. If you can do that then why not lie and make your child younger........:rotfl:? If you have ever made reservations before, and given your childs name, then you will also have to lie and change the name of your child as Disney keeps names and birthdates in their system.

Yeah, I thought that was the case! :) Luckily it's not something I have to worry about for several years, but I can see why some people would want it.

I can see where the OP is coming from with the lack of flexibility. Plenty of people are willing to pay their fair share, they just want more choices in the matter. She wasn't trying to get something for nothing by any means, she just wanted what she'd paid for.

I do think that if someone buys X amount of TS credits, they should be able to use them for whomever they want. I mean, if I want to invite somebody out to dinner and use a TS credit, why does Disney care? An adult meal is paid for... why does it matter who consumes it? It's not like someone is trying to "cheat" Disney out of a meal. Disney wouldn't have to spend an iota more than what they would anyway.

Anyhoo, the basic DDP works nicely for us, but we're more into touring the parks than spending tons of time at meals. One nice TS dinner a day is all we want, and we're quite happy with it. A+, would buy again!

Thank you. I posted the same thought earlier so great minds think alike .

The main problem I had with the DDP was the time restraints. I didn't have a hard time with the ADRs or what we ate, my 9 yo is very picky so eating from the adult menu was not an issue. We will not do the DDP again as he would have to eat from the adult menu and there would be no grilled cheese with french fries...........:rotfl: We are more CS people as we like to spend the time in the parks too. We might try the new CS dining plan. Now, I do love to do a character breakfast at least once per trip .

They care because they'd rather have a person who did not buy the dining plan pay for their own meal. The person who bought the dining plan should be eating the dining plan meal. I guess they could make an exception if you were going to give the meal to someone else on your reservation - but they don't have any real way of enforcing that. The only efficient way to do it was to restrict ordering.

That is why they restrict the number of TS meals you can order to the number of people on your reservation. It's assumed that any number of adults over the number you have on your reservation didn't buy the dining plan since they are not on the dining plan reservation.

All of the OP's problems (with the exception of cancelling ADR's and then being dissapointed that she couldn't get new ones) would have been solved if she had simply purchased the adult plan for her child.

Not really - I'd have a new problem - and the worse one of all : I'd be an idiot! :rotfl:

I'd pay for meals that a 9 yr old can't possible consume. Her mom can't even consume them all. On top of that, I'd have to pay for adult park tickets and to Disney lie about her age (then I'd be a lying, cheating Idiot).

No thanks.

I'd rather just be an honest person who didn't care for the plan and shared her opinion here.

Goodnight:wizard:

Boy, Disney better watch out for my cousin hiding under the table, she may jump out and eat that extra meal I ordered...........:lmao: The plan has its problems and before they work them all out the plan will be a thing of the past. I still think it should be up to me how I want to spend my TS credits. I can go and buy all my snacks and hand them out on the street or buy all my CS at one sitting and give them away, so I should be able to order 2 TS meals at one sitting, I am hungry now because I gave all my snacks and CS meals away................:rotfl2: I know Disney has rules for a reason but, I did pay for the plan and I may want to try more than one entree at a sitting. I want the bbq ribs and the chicken breast dang it.

Same thing I said. If I have to lie and tell them my child is older for one reason then I will give them my childs middle name next time I book so I get the childs price..............;) Tell Disney it is my nephew and that he is 7............:rotfl:

In theory Disney could say you didn't pay for "that meal". When we buy the DP we enter into a contract with WDW. They agree to provide meals (you plan the ADRs and show up to eat them) at a discount, hence they pay for some of those meals. We agree to the rules of the plan. Those rules include not using our meal credits to feed people not on our reservation. We don't have to like it, but if we buy the plan we've agreed to it. We all know the plan is an option, no one makes us buy it. We can rationalize the sharing w/family members off the plan and how morally it makes sense, but the contract says no and it is also moral to uphold our end of the deal.

I'm not sure how much of this is tongue in cheek, but the DIS does not advocate violating WDW's rules by stating that your 10 year old is 9 to get a better value on tickets and dining, or by figuring out how to share dining plan meals with off-plan guests.

Because this topic has run itself pretty much out, I think it is time to end it before it gets into a debate about violating rules.
