Yes you have to try it! We loved it.

More reviews coming soon!

the o'hana looks soooo good right now!! (as i'm sitting in my office skipping lunch because there's practically a monsoon outside :rotfl2:)

glad you liked it... we liked it too. don't you wish those shrimp were peeled? i'd eat bunches more if they were!

So the next day we started off with a breakfast at our hotel. We just had muffins & pastries. None of it was very good and I did not take pictures. It was a madhouse in there as well. I'd prefer never to do that again, if possible!

Our day was planned for Animal Kingdom. We got a lot done in the early morning and then we had our lunch scheduled at the Tusker House at 1:00PM. This seating came with the Nemo package. This meant we got to sit up front for the Nemo show without having to wait in line. It was really a great bonus. We had never seen the show and enjoyed it very much.

So back to lunch. I have been to the Tusker House for breakfast before, but never for lunch. Let me just say, I was impressed! It was really great, I loved it.

It is buffet style, but they have different items than you usually find at a Disney buffet. Here are our plates:

Mine
69b1c5f2.jpg

My favorite was definitely the Cape Malay Curry Chicken. It is what you see there in front over the Basmati rice with Toasted almond slivers and under the pita wedge. I normally don't like things like this, but this one had THE best flavor, I loved it! The Carved Top Sirloin Roast was great as well. You can see I also tried the Corn Dog Nuggets from the kids section. These were the first time I had these. They were just OK, nothing I'd get again for sure. There is also there on the right what I think is a Vegetable Samosa. I didn't like this at all, but it might have just been my tastes. After this plate I actually skipped dessert and just went back for more Cape Malay Curry Chicken & Rice. It was so good!

DH's
3a45ddc3.jpg

You can see over on the left of his plate the Seafood Stew with Tamarind BBQ sauce. I tried some of this as well, it was really tasty and full of good seafood! The other things you see on his plate are the Spiced Rubbed Rotisserie Chicken and the Carved Top Sirloin Roast with horseradish sauce on top. Both were excellent. Then you see the Jollaf Rice there and Oven-roasted Yukon Gold Potato Wedges, which he must have liked, because he ate it all.

DD & DS's plates looked the same
8c6a97ad.jpg

I made them sandwiches with the cold cuts and the rolls at the buffet (DD took the cheese out of hers as you can see). Then they had a pickle, fruit, some green beans, and a bit of the basmati rice. The only thing they wanted more of was the fruit, and they ate a lot of it.

To be honest I thought this was high. I probably wouldn't eat here unless on the dining plan.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
We all loved this meal. The kids enjoyed having something different and so did DH and I. They had much more to offer than was shown here. I think we are actually going here again on our next trip. It's definitely been my favorite meal at Animal Kingdom by far (but we have not tried Yak & Yeti yet).

You're reviews have been great - I'm looking forward to reading more!

we rarely ever have them at home

I noticed you have said this quite a few times in your reviews and I am curious to know what type of things you make for your children? I have 2 year old twin boys and would love a few new healthy meal ideas.

Subscribing!
This is one of the best reports I ever read!
Wow that is quite the compliment, thank you! Glad to have you reading!

Yeah I am normally pretty crazy about what the kids eat! I am more of an ingredient person in that aspect. I avoid high fructose corn syrup, food dyes, and trans fats for them. And I try to give them as many fruits and veggies as possible and eat as few processed things as possible. They DO have them, but I try to avoid them as much as possible without breaking the bank, either. DH & I try too but we are worse at it with snacky things like crackers or chips or whatever.

Tonight they ate a big salad that they helped make and then were still hungry so they had plain organic yogurt & blueberries mixed in. They actually asked to make the salad, that wasn't the plan I had for tonight. They don't eat candy (not even halloween), really they don't even know what it is so they don't miss it ;). I do let them have treats or cake and things at parties or when we go on vacation. If they specifically asked some time, I would let them, but they really don't because they are used to eating this way and really prefer other things. They really don't like the typical kid foods like chicken nuggets and things like that. My DD2 does like Mac N Cheese but DS5 refuses it. They would probably choose fruit over anything else you would offer them just because they love it so much.

As for meals, I just cook for the family, and they eat it, too. Breakfasts are usually one of these: DH makes whole wheat blueberry pancakes, or oatmeal with blueberries/other fruit mixed it, yogurt & fruit, or eggs & cheese with a side of fruit (they alternate choosing one of those every day). Lunches are either leftovers or sandwiches/salads with fruit or carrots or something like that. For dinners, you can check my blog in my signature. I post a lot of our meals and recipes there. Some of their favorites are whole wheat spaghetti, tacos, chicken & broccoli with cashews over rice, hawaiian chicken, quesadillas, black bean soup, meatloaf with broccoli & mashed potatoes (that's the one the love the most!), baked sweet potatoes with other veggies as sides, quiche, cobb sandwiches, make our own pizzas, homemade sloppy joes, etc. There are more on my blog along with recipes if you want to see. :)

For dinner on our last night, we choose to dine at Cape May Clam Bake. I guess I should rephrase that, my husband chose to dine here. It is one of his “must-do’s” when we come to Disney World, where as I could take it or leave it. The kids also like it, because they have large sheets of paper on the table tops and you can draw on it. So, something a little different for them. It’s always good but not great. This time was actually not as good as usual for me.

We started with a bowl of clam chowder.

I love clam chowder, this was the first time I’ve had it here, and it was very good. I enjoyed it a lot.

This is my first plate
9b43a362.jpg

Starting at the top and going clockwise there is Sauteed Green Beans, Roll, Seafood Pot Pie, Hand-carved Roast Pork Loin & Flank Steak, Basil Mashed Potatoes, a Barbeque Pork Rib, and Mac & Cheese.
The Pork and Steak for me was actually not edible. I could not even chew it. I let that go, because I did get the first slice off of both of the brand new pork and beef slabs they brought out, so I thought maybe I just got a bad piece, but still, it was not up to the standards there. The Basil Mashed Potatoes were good as always. The Mac N Cheese is my favorite on Disney World property. It is actually in the kids section but it is so good. Very creamy and grown up tasting! The Pork Rib was nice and flavorful. The Green Beans and also the Seafood Pot Pie were just OK, nothing to brag about. Admittedly, I am a bit of a bread freak, but I do love their rolls here! On my second plate I just got more Mac N Cheese and Ribs and that was it.

This is my husbands first plate. His second looked the same, at least he knows what he likes!
5f49956c.jpg

Starting at the top and going clockwise for him it was Marinated Roast Chicken, Prince Edward Island Sound Mussels, and Mac N Cheese. He loved all of it and got more of the same.

I actually failed to get pictures of the children’s plates, but they had chicken, fruit salad (melon and blueberries with a light dressing), rolls, mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots, and DD2 had Mac N Cheese as well.

Here were our desserts:
da728dca.jpg

We got a Blondie Brownie, a Key Lime Tart, and Mini Vanilla Cupcake. The kids got a chocolate chip cookie, which I also didn’t get a picture of. They had a lot of other desserts to choose from, but I was just getting kind of tired of dessert at this point in the dining plan. We aren’t big dessert eaters and to have it twice a day was beginning to be a bit much, so I took a bite of each of these and that was it. They were good, but not great (seems to be the overall theme here tonight!)

To me this is not worth it for a buffet here. That is just ME though, DH feels it is well worth it and I’m sure the seafood lovers would enjoy it even more as they also had crab-legs, and many other great seafood offerings.

OVERAL THOUGHTS:
We’ve never had a bad meal at Cape May. However, we’ve come 4 or 5 times for dinner, and every time it seems to get a little worse. Don’t get me wrong, it is not bad, it is still good food, but it just seems that the standards seem to be slipping compared to the first time that we went and loved it. Or maybe we have just discovered places that we enjoy going to more than here. Either way, I told DH that I didn’t want to come on our next trip, and he agreed. So, we probably won’t be returning for a while and then we’ll give it another chance. We still like it, but we are giving it a break for a bit.

mmm that mac looks yummy! i've never tried Cape May but would like to. The fam would love the seafood, me not so much :P

Yes it is yummy Mac N Cheese! I've had excellent meals there in the past, but lately it seems to not be as good as it once was. Maybe it's just our experience though. :) I think it's worth trying.

For our last day, we were going to be starting at Chef Mickey’s for breakfast. This is not my favorite place, by far, but the kids love it and DS5 requested it so that he could see all of the characters at breakfast. We have been many times before and so the kids remember it and always want to do it. We are not going on our next trip though, so I told them to make sure they enjoyed this one. ;)

When we got there, we were told to go take our picture with the statue of Mickey. I was OK with this as long as it was going on my photo pass, but when they said they didn’t do that, we got out of line since I knew we wouldn’t buy it. No way would I pay $25 :scared1: for a picture of us with a fake Mickey, they are nuts!

We were actually really tired this morning and so somehow I only got pictures of DD2’s plate and of my plate. I missed DH’s!

Anyway, here is mine:
97b23503.jpg

Starting at the top there is corned beef has, then a sausage link, a biscuit with gravy on top, eggs, a pieces of French toast, and hashbrown casserole. There was nothing spectacular about any of this, but none of it was bad. It was just an OK breakfast. I definitely wouldn’t come here for the food, that is for sure, but it was edible and filled us up!

And here is DD2’s:
ee8a8ea9.jpg

Very simple. Two Mickey Waffles, watermelon, grapes, bacon, hashbrown casserole, peaches, mandarin oranges, and blueberry yogurt. DS5’s was very similar if not the same. They both loved everything and got seconds of the fruit. I think there was a banana in there somewhere, too, for each of them.

COST BREAKDOWN:
9c7ab9d3.jpg

I don’t feel it is worth the price, plain and simple. Although, not having to stand in line to meet the characters is worth a lot to my husband, so maybe it is. :confused3

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
This is just one of those obligatory places we go to make the kids happy. Nothing great about it, but it’s there and it fills us up. Nothing was horrible but nothing was great either, it was just OK. And for that kind of money, it needs to be great!

Only one review left!

I've loved your reviews so far, I can't believe there's only 1 left!

I agree. I think the character meals are, in general, not worth the cash. Go see the characters in the parks and use the money for a yummy dinner elsewhere!

Love your reviews! We just got back and did Le Cellier loved it but I did not know you can sub for mashed patatos! DH had a fit that it did not come with mashed patatos.
