As least I think its a subscription. Received a copy of DWELL magazine in the mail today. According to their website, the date on the label of 9/11 indicates it will expire Sept 2011.

Obviously I'm going to try to call them tomorrow and see what this is all about, but I'm wondering just who I pissed off lately and they've since signed me up for magazine subscriptions I will now need to deal with or receive bills for. j/k

Its not a magazine I would be into at all. Never heard of it. Cannot imagine how my name might have gotten onto a list like this if its something like a 1 yr free gift subscription from something.

Just odd & puzzling.

Searching the internet didn't really turn up anything either.

Maybe another magazine you DO subscribe to has folded and they have rolled your subscription into this one?

It could be a new mag that is targeting you. You get it free at first, then they send you a renewal notice in hopes you liked it and will keep it.

Did you order from Forever 21? Online they have a scam (my opinion) that your order includes a free magazine subscription. You have to mail forms in if you don't want it that have to be printed off during the check out process. You can only opt out one time in a year. They refund $10 for the cost of the free subscription once in a year if you follow all the rules.

I was going to guess it was a link from another magazine. I ordered the old Disney magazine years ago and suddenly started getting both Parents and Parenting magazines, too. I never ordered and never paid for them. They said I was put on their list from the Disney magazine.

I started receiving a bunch of magazines about a year ago - Shape, Prevention, Maxim?! (I'm a single mom), that I never ordered. I tried calling the magazines directly but they couldn't help me - said the subscriptions came through a clearing house. I have not yet received a bill and I know for sure that they have not been charged on my credit card.

At first I thought maybe someone was trying to send me a message about trying to get healthy and then I got the Maxim and couldn't understand why anyone who knows me would send me that one. I figure eventually the magazines will stop.

I got it some time last year. I called and said "Nice stuff in the mag, but not my price range. Don't want another one." I think it piggybacks off of another magazine or Lowe's website.

This was what I was thinking. But boy, they've got the wrong target on this one. :rotfl:

DWELL magazine cancelled the account easily. I may receive another 1 or 2 issues however.

Said the order was placed by an agency. ValueMags.com. It MIGHT have been a promotion, she doesn't know. She gave phone # 800-303-0344 which leads to many BBB complaints.

Regarding above suggestions: we don't subscribe to magazines.
Don't shop at Lowes or Forever 21. No Disney credit card.
Did recently have to buy a mattress. Wonder if that triggered it.

Hope there aren't anymore magazines coming.

Are you kidding? That is a company I will steer clear of.

I wish I was! It is one of DD's favorite store. First time I was on a laptop that didn't have a printer....ended up with Women's health. Last month they tried to saddle me with something else. I was on a connected computer and dutifully printed the forms. I had to include every item's name, ID number and description-hand written, along with the receipt. Still have not gotten my $10 back. Total scam and PITA. in my opinion

I don't really see what the big deal is about getting free magazines in the mail, except that it adds more paper to your recycling bin. I get a bunch of magazines, mostly parenting related ones that I'm sure I got on a list for from ordering baby items online, but as long as I'm never charged for them they can keep sending them. Gives me something to flip through on my morning commute.

I've been getting Time Out New York for at least 3 years and have never paid for it. I knowingly signed up for a 1-year free subscription, but even after that year was up they kept sending it. I've never renewed it & never received a bill. If they want to keep giving me free magazines, they can go right ahead.

I was just trying to avoid a potential scam of being billed for it.

One of the oldest tricks in the book when a boyfriend does wrong to a girlfriend and they break up, is for the girlfriend to go and sign the guy up for a bunch of magazines that he then has to deal with getting cancelled and get the bills to stop hounding him.

If it was anything like that at all, I wanted to simply nip it in the bud before it got out of control.

And I just don't want any magazines. Free or not.

And as you can see from the Forever 21 example above, some sellers are less than ethical. Figuring some people will simply pay for something rather than deal with the trouble of having to get a refund.

That's not me.

I'm still getting Newsweek even though my subscription ended in July. I don't like the new format and don't want it anymore but they won't stop sending it. They keep sending me letters asking me to renew but I don't like it anymore.
