Hi all,
We have just recived our tickets today yipee

It's new this year. Everyone with a new adult pass has to insert index and middle fingers into a scan at the turnstile.

When you first use your ticket you put your index and middle finger into a scanner. It takes a biometric scan of your fingers. It's not a fingerprint or anything like that. It's to make sure only you can use your ticket. Each time you use your ticket at the gate you will put your fingers into the scanner. It's really quick, only takes a few seconds. If it doesn't work you just have to show some ID, but it usually works.

They're not keeping a database of people or anything. The biometric reading is put onto the magnetic strip on the ticket, so whenever that ticket is used the reading has to match.

Does this mean that if we buy 2 adult 7 day MYW hoppers and don't use all of the days that the leftover days on each ticket have to be used by the same person - DH and I couldn't swap tickets? I am just thinking that we will probably have 2 days left over on our MYW tickets from our next trip. What would happen if on the trip after that one of us wanted to use the 2 days from both tickets while one person just bought a 4 day pass. Would that not work?

Sorry becka, ticket swapping is what this is supposed to prevent. So no, that wouldn't work. It used to only apply to APs, Fla res passes, etc... but now it's all tickets.

In Feb, oOur DD4 NEVER had to do the finger scan.... even with a MYW pass.

Well that flat out stinks! I understand that they don't want people to sell the leftover days but it really makes me mad that they can't be used by the same family. Do the MYW hoppers have your name on them - first and last? I know those biometric scanners are not always perfect.

I believe you have to sign the back of the ticket. That way, in theory, if the scan doesn't work they look for the signature and match to a picture id (right??). I think the scanners work a large majority of the the time although I haven't used them yet myself.

We have AP, whcih have used the scanners for many years.
First, it's only adult tickets, so no kids need to have their fingers scanned.
Second, if someone is physically not able to scan, they won't make them (DD is disabled and not able to scan).
Third, if the scan doesn't work, they will have you try again and if it still doesn't work, they will ask for ID. That happened to me twice on a 10 day trip - I have problems with 2 rings that get in the way of the machine though.
Fourth, we bought MYW for my niece and her DD. Their names were printed on them.

you would be expected to each use the 2 days left on your original tickets. To have 4 days admission, you would each need to purchase another 2 day ticket.

Yes but a 2 day ticket costs more per day than a 4 day ticket. :( Leave it to Disney to figure out another way to get more money from us.

Does this only apply to new tickets???

I have 2-days left over from 3 years ago, before I had an AP.

I bought my husband and son a 4-day hopper each for this years trip. We are going to the parks for 5-days & I was going to use 1 of my leftover days on my son & 1 on my husband. Will they scan their fingers when we use them. Or since they are older tickets, does the scanning not apply? :confused3

I would like to know before we arrive.

Hope this makes sense!

The finger scanning only applies to the new Magic Your Way tickets which Disney started selling in January 2005. No finger scans are needed for older Park Hopper of Park Hopper Plus tickets.

If you have to sign your name on the back of the ticket does the ticket also have your full name printed on the ticket? Could we sign the backs of the ticket with just a first name initial and our last name? Then the signature would match our ID's for DH and I....

No that wouldn't work because you are still going to have a finger scan attached to the ticket. Unless you bought the tickets at the same time and it might work because the tickets are "tagged."

Unless your fingers are the same length and width as your DH's, it won't matter if the signatures match. But, to my knowledge, they want first & last name.

But you actually saved money on the 7 day MYW vs when they were not tracking the tickets. If you know you are returning consider the 9 day MYW now and you will each have 4 days left - even cheaper!! Or just buy what you need now and don't add the non expire option - cheaper still.

I like the new tickets as you can pay for what you need vs the los where you paid for everything from day one. We don't always hop, and don't use water parks more than once as well as take a day off in the trip. With the LOS I always felt like the clock was ticking!
