DVD's that no one watches any more

We have a rather large collection of DVDs that just sit, unwatched, except for the first time we played them. DS is 5 - once he's seen a movie one time, that is enough for him, with very few exceptions (Cars, The Nightmare Before Christmas). Is it worth trying to sell them on Craigslist or Ebay?

Thanks!

Since CL is free it's definitely worth it. I'd put them up for a bit more than you think they're worth and wait for the best offers.

On eBay I'd check the completed items and see if they sell and for how much. They may be better in a lot.

You might be able to get a few bucks for them. But to save even more money just don't buy movies, rent them either from Netflix or redbox.

Disney collection movies can bring in quite a bit, sometimes just under a few bucks retail. But just toddler movies, probably only a buck or two.

If you have sets, sell it together. That will bring in more than individually.

I like to swap movies on swap dot com. You list what you have, others do the same. The site porposes swaps. They trade CDs, Books, movies, and video games. And it doesn't have to be movie for movie. It can be movie for CD or movie for game. All you pay is to ship it to the other swapper.

I have done well with selling them in lots. The blu ray versions will sell on their own pretty well. I sold about 10 and started the pricing around $20...I think I ended up with about $50....not bad.

make sure you take picture of all of them together.

unopened authentic Disney movies will sell well too...

I second selling them in a lot. :thumbsup2 I recently got $40 for a lot of 13 Elmo DVD's. It took a little while, but I eventually sold them!

If you want to list for a fixed price, you can try half.com. It's owned by eBay but is all fixed-price listings. No fee to list, you just pay a commission when the item sells. There's also no time limit on the listings, so you can just leave things listed there until they sell.

we put a huge list on Cl and put 5.00 a movie... they sold soooo fast and it was nice to have the cash.

I used to sell on eBay, but Dson-in-law does everything on CL for us now..

half.com might not be a bad idea - if you can still put them up in "lots".. Individually would take forever.. Also, you are then getting involved in packaging, shipping, etc. - and you may not want to go to all that trouble..

If you choose to do CL, again, I would do them in lots (5 in a lot or so); price them higher than what you want, and let the buyer wheel and deal.. Worse case scenario, you get exactly what you wanted - best case, you get more than what you wanted..:thumbsup2

Of course if you go with CL, make sure you do it safely.. Lots of tips on how to do that here on the DIS..

Good luck! :goodvibes

Another option might be swapadvd.com. This website allows you to post the DVDs you no longer want. When someone wants one of them, you mail it off and get a credit that you can use to order a different one for yourself. I swap books, CDs and DVDs in this manner and have not actually bought a book in years.

DH sold ours on Amazon. There was a place on the website that he was able to find out what they would pay. For some, there was little value. Others, like Candyland, paid a few dollars. It's better than nothing!

if you have a Hastings nearby, we buy used product (DVDs, books, CVDs, games)

I sold a CD collection on Craigslist...300 for $250. She flat out told me she was going to turn around and put them up on ebay for more :) I don't have the patience for ebay, I was glad to get rid of them in one fell swoop.

Since they are DVDs you could try grouping them by category.

We have a gentleman that has a stand at the flea market here who buys all the DVDs he can so you may want to try Craig's list

We sold about half of our movies last year on ebay. I put them in lots by audience type (children, action, etc). I also tried to group a few more popular ones with a handful of not so popular. I can't remember what I made total, but overall I wasn't disappointed. I made some money and got them off of our shelf. A win-win situation.
