dvd storage

Right now, we have the binders where on the front side of the page is a slot for the dvd insert and on the back side of the page there is a slot (or 2 - depending on which ones we managed to get) for the discs themselves.

But, it seems bulky and not all of my dvds have come with an insert so I have to go to the backside of the page and peek in the disc slot to see what dvd is in there.

How do you store your dvds?

I have mine in storage boxes from Ikea ~ same with our CD's and Wii games. :)

I have a bunch of binders but I'm the only one that uses them. The boys just stack them up whereever. I wouldn't recommend doing this. Maybe I should charge them a restocking fee?

We have a 400 Disc DVD Changer (almost full), so all my DVDs are racked. The cases are kept in storage bins. Our Harmony remote knows which disc is in each slot (as does the DVD Changer as well).

That said, because we're almost full, we're looking at moving to a HTPC to rip all of our DVDs to and store digitally, but this is a little bit of a process to undertake (including building the HTPC), so it will be a year I think before we're 100% online.

I bought the binders from amazon.com.

For any DVD that had a card board exterior, I cut it off the DVD box and inserted it into the slot. If it had a paper insert, then I just used that so we would know which DVD it was without having to read the tiny print on the DVD itself.

supermediastore sells this nice cases that are like foot-lockers.

If you don't have inserts, why not just print one from the net and insert it?

I use the supermediastore boxes. I have two of them. They hold all of my movies, music CDs, and computer discs. I like them much better than the folders I used to use because it is easy to keep things alphabetized when I add new discs.

My primary storage is my network server. I have most of my movies, music, and computer discs copied onto the network. I only use the storage boxes for archival purposes and for the occasional odd disc that I need that isn't on my server.

As for the CD cases, I throw all of them away. I have a bunch of the DVD cases in a box, but I throw most of them away as well. I won't be able to resell my stuff without the boxes, but I have no plans to sell my used movies or music.

We use those Ikea storage boxes too! They are great, you just stick the dvd box and all in the storage box which is the exact size. There is a spot on the front that you can write a category (i.e. "Disney Movies" "Horror Movies"). I just bought some more the other day, they were $4.99 for two of the storage boxes.
