Terry (Skiwee1)---thanks for "getting it"! Your scenerio is exactly what happened!

And the defending of Disney continues...IF you are going to have a sale and I am sure Disney did not just decide to do this in a matter of hours, then you better have the stock to have a sale...Not just simply stop the sale because it was more of a success than Disney expected it would be????

Has anyone ever thought that maybe Disney felt they might be loosing there butts offering these things for 10bucks???? OR as has been the normal for Disney they offer things like this to get people in to the stores and guess what, while the customers are there they buy regular priced merchandise??? Can you say bait and switch!!!

Kind of like what they have been doing with perks at the parks over the last year or so...isn't it??

Doggy,

I have to disagree. This sale was not used to bring people in the stores. It was a last minute, UNadvertised sale, which means, only people who were in the store at the time of the sale would have known about it. I can see if they sent out postcards like they sometimes do advertising a sale or a special item with purchase, but this was not the case.

I do think it was unfortunate that people were told while they were in the store that it was going to be going on for two days.

I have learned in the past that these last minute, unadvertised sales can often end very ubruptly, so I will never offer an ending date or time to one of these. I've learned my lesson on that one.

If you are in the store when you see a great deal, grab it then.

I've gone to an advertised sale in a store only to find they don't have the item/items, and been told by clerks they never got them in, so why is that any different?

Grocery stores and the big discount chains do this type of thing all the time, advertise something dirt cheap, all the while knowing that when a person comes in to get that item, they most likely will pick up something else. Its been proven that the placement of certain items on the end aisles in grocery stores attract people and can make them buy the item on the spur of the moment.

So I don't think Disney is much different than other retailers. I'm not convinced Disney was deliberately pulling a bait and switch.

Difference is this.....normally the stores that advertise a cheap item will offer a rain check or a replace item.....OR.....they clearly put a disclaimer in the ad....."while supplies last no rain checks"......

Other difference is.....Disney pulled the special long before the ending date that was originally set............am I wrong???

Sometimes stores do as you suggest, but this was apparently an in-store promo, which usually, those can be stopped at any time. Was it done fairly, I don't really think it was. If it had been in "print" or advertsied on TV, radio etc., then I think the circumstances would be a little different. And stores like Disney never give rain checks etc., you get it or you don't.

And again, I've gone into many a store looking for a sale item, advertised in the paper, NO RAINCHECK offered, nothing but an "I'm sorry, we're sold out", no substitution, no nothing.

You obviously are very unhappy, so I would email Disney directly and let them know.

Bait and switch applies to advertised sales which this was not. A few people who were in the stores were able to take advantage of a great deal. While I don't think the promotion was handled well I'm not all worked up over it. It's all speculation as to why Disney handled it this way. Bait and switch? Maybe, but I really don't think so.

Bait and switch is not illegal, but is, in fact, rather common. The Target by my house rarely has the items in their Sunday advertisements in stock the first day of the sale. Same thing at the grocery store. Sales, advertised or not, in national chains do not mean that every store will have ample stock of every single sale item. Especially with a last minute unadvertised promotion like the stupid DVD sale.

Did the CMs pressure you into buying higher priced items? When you entered the store were you informed that the DVDs had been on sale, weren't anymore but you felt like you had to buy something just to get out? It's the consumers choice not to spend additional money in the store.

Should I be mad at Old Navy? They were advertising that all their jeans were $20 so I went right away to pick up a couple extra pairs. They were sold out in my size. No one offered me a raincheck, no one pressured me to buy the more expensive pants. I just left a little disappointed that I couldn't get them. The same thing at GapKids this weekend. They advertised that all their kid's shoes were $10 off, but they were sold out of the shoes I had been wanting to get my DS. Did I chastise the employees? No. Am I bummed that I couldn't get the shoes? Yes. Did I spend a bunch of money in the store? No. Will I shop there again? Sure.

Who's to say when the sale was set to end? You? We didnt' even know about it until it started. We were told that it would go on for the weekend, but we're not omnicient.

IT WAS UNADVERTISED and a special little thing for people who got to take advantag of it. GET OVER IT!!!!

I think this post should be locked. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Kaelyn, I agree... we are beating a dead horse here... and no matter what we say, some people just don't get it, and are going to think exactly what they want to anyway...so why waste our breath?

From now on, I for one, will not be posting any specials, sales, etc that are happening at TDS on this board because I don't want to be accused of anything if the store should run out, or the special end prematurely.

A good healthy debate is what America is all about. People have the freedom to expess their opinions no matter what they may be. There are different points of view of course, and if you take the time to step back you can see the other peoples point of view. I love threads like this where people can express their opinions without personally attacking each other.

CherylA, your point is well taken, but this is not the debate board and this thread was not a debate, it was about a promo offer at the Disney Store for DVD's at $10. When the promo ended abruptly, this whole thread turned into a bashing of the stores, not even a debate as it were, so I think that some store CM's felt compelled to defend not necessarily how the whole promo was handled, but themselves from the backlash of complaints that many who worked had to endure from irate shoppers. If it was to have been a debate, it should have been passed over to that board, and not on the Budget Board.

Every time I work we have guests who ask "How long is this going to be on sale?" and I answer honestly, "I don't know" which is usually how it happens at The Disney Store. Sales appear out of no where and end the same way. I don't think anyone ever knows EXACTLY how long anything will be on sale. Very seldom if ever does TDS advertise their in-store sales.

I didn't get to take advantage of the sale. Am I disappointed? Yes. Am I angry at Disney? Absolutely not!! I think it was a pretty generous thing to do, as there is not a very big mark-up on movies. So as someone said earlier "GET OVER IT"!!

Seems like the majority of CM's and guests alike agree it was handled poorly by Disney.
We can all guess the real rea$on$ behind the $tart and $top of the $ale. ;)
I am very glad they had it, and glad I was able to take advantage of it. I do feel for the CM's, as they seemed to be between a rock and a hard place. An unhappy customer or getting in trouble with Disney. Either way someone wasn't happy.

Since the DVD Sale has long been over and both sides have had ample opportunity to share their points of view, this thread will be locked. If anyone would like to debate this issue, please feel free to continue this on the Debate Board.
