DVD players/headphones/plane

Headphones are required. Passengers will complain. Would you like a teenager to listen to (unrated) rap "songs" without headphones? Would you like another passenger to watch an action movie without headphones? An unrated version of an R movie.

Don't even bring the DVD player if you know your child won't use headphones.

You (jokingly?) asked if we'd rather hear your child crying. Neither. Don't fly if your child is too young to behave on the plane.

Again, my mistake. I'm terrified he's going to cry due to ear pain, fear or frustration and bother other passengers on the plane. I was TRYING to be considerate of others.

I know it will be hard to believe after reading this thread, but folks are actually darn understanding of crying kids on planes, as long as the parent seems to be making at least some effort to keep things under control.

We have kids (or at least were kids) so we understand that some things can't be helped. We might not like sitting next to a crying baby, but we understand.

The no-headphones DVD player may seem like it would be less annoying. But there's a psychological aspect that drives people nuts. The crying often can't be helped. The DVD player can.

Greatly appreciate your thoughts on not annoying people. No need to be terrified that your kid will cry and bother other passengers. If it happens, it happens.

The OP has pretty much gotten her answer. The answers weren't what she had hoped for but they were pretty accurate. If a DVC player is loud enough to impact those around the person using it, the FA will ask that it be turned down or headphones used. And that is pretty much the answer. The OP could end up in an area where no one would care one way or the other. But, on the other hand, she could have a few cranky people around her who would put up a stink...better to be prepared for all eventualities I would think.
