Now that Poly is a done deal any more rumors about the Fort Wilderness DVC?

Moe

We were there in March and heard that it is still in the works. Can't recall from whom. But I think it will happen.

Postponed yes, dead I doubt it.

GF will sell out, Poly will open, Poly will sell out... DVC will not stop making locations..
Options left are

YC, but parking and a pool would be needed, as SAB and parking are already IMO at nearly max.

FW, potential

New resort .. I guess anywhere.. 2nd MK gate, random in the middle of no where, next to HS, resort attached to BB/TL?

Make something bigger.. BLT 2nd bldg., which seems to be questionable based on ground, and resale prices I think make this 1 less attractive. SSR more tree houses?

Of all of these.. I think FW has the most likeliness.

That location might be next. They need to get working on the next location ASAP. It can take a couple of years just to do the planning and permitting.

I, for one, would love to see another DVC on the monorail line. It's own entity not attached to another existing hotel. Preferably close to Epcot.

My guess is that the dues would be $10 per point to have a stand alone resort with a monorail stop only funded by dues.

Sign me up! :cool1:

ETA: I just had a thought...

What if DVD designed an EPCOTesque resort that worked a lot like the original vision of EPCOT? The area could have houses, condos (like Golden oaks) and a DVC resort? The monorail would feed it to the rest of the complex, then a walk or TTA to the various "neighborhoods" (aka housing options).

If you look at Google earth you will see an excellent spot for a resort on the monorail line between MK and Epcot. There is even a Disney-esque lake (pond) there. My only question about it is how to build the monorail stop so that you can go to Epcot OR to MK.

Would people groan that they had to go to Epcot before going to MK? I think they would.

I don't think the resort would necessarily tie in to MK or Epcot. I think Tuscany would be nice.

We did a Wishes Fireworks Cruise last week, and one of the things the boat captain pointed out to us during our tour of Bay Lake was several surveyor's poles in the water near the former River Country. His explanation was that it has to do with the new DVC expansion to Ft Wilderness.

Of course, a boat captain isn't nearly the authoritative source as if I'd had it confirmed by a bus driver. ;)

The houses/condos would never be available for private ownership or long-term rental without de-annexing the land from RCID. Having full-time residents means having voters. Right now, the only people who can vote in RCID "elections" are Disney employees and that will never change. This is why the land under Celebration and, later, Golden Oak was de-annexed from the District before construction began.

If you get a chance, read Neal Gabler's excellent book, Married to the Mouse. It provides fairly convincing evidence that Walt knew there could be no permanent residents in the Resort even before The EPCOT Project piece was filmed.

My guess is that FW DVC is still very much a possibility. It is an ideal non-monorail location, the FW resort offers a lot of things to do that are not available elsewhere, and Disney would finally have something useful to do with the space previously occupied by River Country. Moroeover, FW would easily play in marketing as acceptable as a combined deluxe (for the DVC units), moderate (the cabins), and value (the camp grounds) resort, with a country flavor.

Saw a rumor today that parts of Carribean Beach might be portioned off for DVC. I am not sure if I believe it, but I have long suspected that every Disney Deluxe and Moderate resort will eventually get a DVC add on.

If we are going to speculate on possible locations for new DVC resorts, when do the leases for the Swolpin resorts expire???

Not until the late 2080s (99 year lease entered into shortly before the hotels were built; Swan opened in early 1990, Dolphin mid-1990).

We love the vibe at FW, if DVC goes in I might be tempted to add some points there. We have walked over to FW a number of times from WL - we just enjoy walking around. And, we always go in October, very cool to see a lot of the sites & campers decorated for Halloween!

I've thought the same for a long time. Once they put in DVC in all the Deluxe resorts and maybe another 1-2 new WDW resorts they will probably turn to the Moderates. I would just hope those Moderate buy in & points per night would be much lower than the Deluxe DVCs. But by the time they get to them the buy in cost will probably be at least the same as I paid 9 years ago.

They can always add another building to animal kingdom lodge. They have all the land they need there.

If DVC does move into the realm of moderates, I would hope the points for those resorts would roughly reflect the current price-per-point for other resorts. Otherwise, the exchange of those points out to other resorts really skews the system.

The points per night at moderate resorts, however, would be significantly lower. Also, conceptually, because the overall resort costs are spread over a much larger population of rooms than at deluxe resorts, the moderate resorts would have substantially lower costs to be absorbed into the maintenance fees. Lower number of points and lower maintenance fees would be the incentive to buy contracts at moderates.
