DVCNews has an interested article on Next Decade of DVC

Great article. Thanks! Just wonder if:

1) Will there be a concierge floor

2) Will existing VWL owners be able to book in the main Lodge at the 11 month mark

3) I presume that their will be a new expire date than the present 2042, so will Disney give existing owners the option of extending their present contract.

4) any other concerns?

Interesting article. I was really surprised to see how low the occupancy numbers at the Wilderness Lodge were.

It would be a little strange though to have a deluxe DVC at CBR while at the same time having it a moderate hotel. That kind of implies no sharing of amenities.

I am excited by this!. We just stayed at the WL for one night to complete our vacation. We were able to book at a great rate. The resort was so wonderful. I love the theme. So excited about cabins with private hot tubs and fire pits. It all sounds wonderful to me.

Everyone has their sources, but it is my understanding that a resort room conversion at Disney's Beach Club is significantly more likely than a conversion at Disney's Yacht Club.

Disney's Yacht Club is a successful convention space and there is serious concern that changing the resort dynamic, from conventioneers to extended-stay families, will shift Disney Meeting business elsewhere on property (e.g., WDW Swan & Dolphin).

Disney Meeting convention catering and meeting space rental, combined with room and park expenses, is incredibly lucrative for WDW. Unless Disney Meeting contracts and reservations were to significantly plummet, convention contracts will not be jeopardized by DVC.

When the ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgeons come to Orlando, they do not want to discuss thyroid associated orbitopathy in lobby's with screaming children.

Same sentiment echoed in that story:

"Some are pushing to keep Yacht Club DVC-free due to resort convention business and other factors."

Good article with some details I haven't heard before.

Personally, I do not like speculation on Disney's part of turning any moderate or value resort into any part of DVC. In my mind it simply does not fit into the DVC equation and would devalue DVC as we know it.

If they want to fill those rooms then they should lower the prices. Period.

That would be my thought as well. Disney seems to be reality deficient when it comes to pricing of their hotel rooms. They seem to keep raising rates in spite of the overall economy. Of course the theme park attendance keeps going up so those folks must be staying somewhere...

Sure would hate to be the guy or gal responsible for balancing all these forces..

I couldn't agree more. Even if they tear down old rooms and build a new DVC tower, as Tim mentioned, it's still on the property of a Moderate, sharing, or at least in very close proximity to, the Moderate pool, lobby area, etc. Just don't see how that would "feel" like a deluxe resort, which is supposedly what you are buying into when you purchase DVC.

I don't see the difference between CBR proximity to converted DVC and FW proximity to WL. Slightly further to FW, but not much different.

I think Star Wars land at DHS will be so popular that DVC would be missing a huge opportunity if they did not add an entire new area for DVC beyond just BCV hotel room conversions.

IMHO, the DHS and Epcot area are among the best locations for DVC to expand in the future.

I thought that when the Poly DVC finally came online, it would be a very quick seller (I guess we will see soon enough) but think a new DVC, be it an entirely new building or a conversion of rooms, would be HUGE. There hasn't been any actively selling inventory in the Epcot/DHS area in years, unlike tha MK resort area. I think we are done buying points for now but a new resort in that area may be enough to entice us to get more.

So many plans, but what one(s) will Disney pick......will be interesting.

Wow the expansion at VWL and WL is more exciting to me than the Polynesian.

Our guide was talking about moderate DVC villas. On our last visit. Most likely DVC will not build new buildings but instead redo the old and sell out the smaller resorts. Quicker. I do believe he said the goal was ( turn and burn)
