DVC'ers without Children...

No kids .. we purchased in 1997 and have had a fantastic time -- majority of our trips are just the two of us enjoying those wonderful 1 bedroom villas! We have taken family and friends, and enjoy sharing DVC with them, but our favorite vacations are when it's just the two of us.

We are not park commandos...some days never stepping foot in a park. We enjoy the pools, relaxing, reading, visiting and dining at the different resorts. We love to visit during food and wine and early December, and flower and garden.

We do not visit during peak seasons..we like the parks when it isn't crowded and the weather is cooler. We do avoid the sections of the parks geared towards the little ones...like fantasy land at the MK. Not because we don't like kids (because we do!) but the attractions don't interest us and the lines are usually very long! There are times we go into a park and never set foot on an attraction..we just enjoy walking around soaking up the atmosphere, people watching, spectromagic, fire works etc.

We added on twice since 1997..we really enjoy our DVC vacations! The great thing about Disney is it appeals to kids of all ages....

My sincere thanks to everyone that offered ideas on what to do without kids. Since DS is now in college, I was at a loss for ideas on what DW and I could be doing this January. Much appreciated.

We are DINKs here. But DH has 3 from former wives plus 3 grandkids. (yes, I'm a member of the Third Wives Club as is my friend. We laugh a lot about it).

Anyway, we go a lot with our friends (see Dec) and the boys golf while the girls do anything they want to......heh heh. We take tours, dawdle in Epcot, shop, take as much time as we want to everywhere we go. We plan only for things we don't want to miss (i.e. Spectromagic on Sat night) and to catch other opportunities (i.e. AK Early Opening).

It's a much different vacation than when we take family with grandkids (see March). And Aug 2005 I will take just me and my granddaughter (can only have two countdowns..........).

So we like the variety - but we definately bought for ourselves.

DH and I bought BCV last year and have two DS ages 3 and 8. We enjoyed WDW on honeymoon 13 years ago and have been to WDW every year since! So many trips prior to having the children. Just in February we "escaped" for a short trip to VWL without the Kids!! WOW!! It was heavenly!! Like y'all said it's just so much different without the kids. You know nice dinner at 9 pm at Kona AFTER the fireworks...moving faster...no child swap....actually having a relaxing drink by the pool in the afternoon.

We have already planned another short getaway for next year. Two nites only....but we had such a great time last year that we feel it is worth it!!

Looking forward to spending upcoming trips with and without the kids if possible and of corse the golden years at WDW together, hopefullly with a few add-ons we can do a little retirement time there as well....just the two of us!

I just purchased at SSR 9/03-no kids, no wife, but niece, nephew and lots of family who will enjoy my purchase-first visit 7/4/04.

Mike:

My DD is 24 and in a PHD program in England. We bought at BCV in January 04 and added on at SSR last month. DW and I are going for a week at BCV in September for our 30th wedding anniversary, our first trip ever without our DD.

So far we have plans for our anniversary dinner at California Grill, trips to PI and just walking about and holding hands. We also have plans to meet our DVC Guide and his wife for dinner at V&A for their anniversary which is 2 days before ours (wierd huh). We also are doing Illuminations at EPCOT on Breathless. I missed our 10th due to work committments and we want to make this one to remember.

We are also looking into a January trip with DD when she is home for Christmas break so we still love to be with her when we can.

While we didn't buy DVC until our kids were approaching middle school, my wife and I visited WDW several times before the kids were born. Our favorite resort was the Poly, where we would visit Lucy and Ethel (the photo of 1900 Fijiian princesses in Ruratanga); our favorite meal was (and still is) dinner at the Brown Derby with that astonishing Cobb salad.

DH is 51, I'm 41. No kids but our 9 4-legged ones (no, not mutants). WDW is our absolute favorite place in the whole wide world and the only place we do repeat vacations to. We still mostly go commando because there are STILL so many things we've never done and just can't seem to fit in! We do try to take naps so we can hit the late night stuff as well (that heat/AC/heat/AC business really saps it out of you), and do PI much more than we would if kids were around.

We bought when our DD was in college, so no actual "kids" in our reasons. We take one trip each year with our DD, DSIL and DGS.....but we also take a trip each year with just the two of us. WDW is our most favorite place to be!

We bought in when our three had either left home or were at University. We let them have some points if they want them, otherwise we use them ourselves either at a DVC resort or to go concierge at one of the hotels.

I have never been married or had kids - so yes I still love WDW and DVC....

I have taken family, friends and co-workers - sometimes I went with them - sometimes I just make the reservations and they went without me......Giving friends and family trips to WDW is a great gift....

I brought back in 93 and have no regrets (just don't ask me about my Westgate purchase.....) - I also own a non-brand in Panama City Beach for my nephew - he told me that WDW was "old hat" - now of course he wants to go to both WDW and PCB.....okay my fault I spoiled him and his sister.

I am taken his sister next month - she will be there for his baseball games and then I will come and we will go to OKW/WDW...

So yes you can have a wonderful time at WDW without kids and with kids - I happen to love most of my trips - now sometimes solo trips are wonderful - sometimes they can be bad....just depends.....

I bought in 95 and I have no kids. I sometimes take my nieces and nephews. My siblings and their famlies. Sometimes I go with friends or by myself. One thing is for sure I always have a great time. I look foward to going back home. I love going to Fastasmic.
I have many priceless memories of when the whole family went when my father was alive. I look foward to many more memories.

I like to think of us as "child-free."

We bought in a few weeks after we honeymooned and took the tour. We haven't taken a trip on our SSR points yet, though we rented points to stay at OKW. We commando through the parks, and also try to include one new activity/restaurant into our trips. We're on the fence about having kids ourselves though our number of nephews and nieces is increasing every year. We figure we'll be the favorite aunt and uncle. I'm so glad we bought in when we did!

Child-free and loving WDW. DW and I are in our 30s, have no children, and won't. Had gone to WDW several times and loved it. We finally bought DVC about 3 years ago and go twice a year; once in May by ourselves and once in October where we usually take family, neices and nephews included. Love to see the reaction and enjoyment of the kids, but equally love the time by ourselves.

No kids here ;) - We go down and usually spend 9-11 days just going at our own pace - enjoying the parks / resorts / restaurants. We bring MIL sometimes. This October some friends of ours will be there the same time and we're bringing MIL again. No intention of having children, at least in the near future. Unless we adopt. My Sister, BIL and my nephew / god son also go down sometimes when we are there, it's always fun to take him along with Chris and I!

My husband bought before we were married. They had just started building Old Key West which was called "The Vacation Club" in 1991. We stayed there by accident cause the travel agent goofed They were giving tours of the commedor house. Remember that. . Free icecream and wonderful spoilling hospitatily. It had just opened and we were literely the only people in Olivias. Remember Wanda the waitress?.We married 2 yrs later and spent 2 weeks on our honeymoon. 17 trips and 2 kids later it has been the best investment he could have ever made.without WDW there aint nothin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the best place on earth. got back from a easter 2 wk excersion and going back aug 2005. NOT SOON ENOUGH.

We also have no children except two dogs and a cat. We love our DVC and have added on 3 times since our initial purchase. About half the time we bring friends or family but I love the trips on our own. We always eat a couple of great dinners - CA Grill and Narcoossees are 2 of our favorites. We sleep late, sometimes just go to one of the monorail hotels, hop on and shop in each of the resorts. This is also great to do at the holidays to see all the resorts in their finest. We love just sitting on Main Street at the MK eating a great ice cream sandwich and waiting for the parade or just enjoying people watching. Coming back to our wonderful 1 bdr and enjoying the jacuzzi tub and a glass of wine or watching Illuminations from the BWV balconies. Jellyrolls and the Adventurer Club and PI are also favorites. Our coworkers always wonder when we say it is our most relaxing vacation spot, but for us it really is our home away from home.
