DVCers - AKV?

I think that we might acutally be in the odd position of having too many points!

Do most people book studios or 1-bedrooms? This past use year we had enough points for 8 nights in a 1 bedroom in BWV/VWL and then 6 nights this coming May in a studio in VWL, I then banked points into next year.

So, AKV is not in the cards, unless I sell off some of my smaller contracts. Right now the lion's share of our points is at VWL, which at about 146 units makes the 11 month window an advantage.

I was a bit torn on this, but am resisting temptation.

I read this too fast, too early and without any coffee flowing through my veins.

I read... "by the way, is your dog a lesbian?" And I kept right on going as if that was the most logical question ever asked on the G&L boards. And Wally's response didn't trigger anything.

On to the Drinking Around the World thread, and I stopped dead in my tracks. Why would Wally refer to his dog as a bull ... wait a minute... Is your dog a lesbian? HUH? Go back, re-read. Sigh heavy.

I'm going back to bed.

She might be a lesbian.

See that's where we differ - the most consistent use we make of our points is to book 2 bedrooms and then host family and friends. We want to continue doing that - we love it - but we also want to fit in some weekends for just the partner and I. We think 500 points will do it.

English Bull Terrier.

TOTALLY OT -- Her pics are just SO adorable -- I love her eyebrows!!!!! Is she a sweetie-face mushy girl too???

p.s. -- just read the pup's orientation posts -- too funny! Life with a slight case of dyslexia has gotta much more interesting than not.

Congrats on the additional points!
We've stayed at AKL CL this past summer. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!!
I'm having a hard time resisting an add-on myself, especially since receiving the mailing a few days ago. Still working on talking hubby into it. We could use the additional pts. since we're a family of five. Wish me luck!:)

Did you try telling him that it's a really cool zoo with special programs for the whole family and the even have sleep-overs? Good luck!!

Too many points???? Not possible! I actually thought that a while ago but I have changed my mindset. I have a total of 674 points now with my AKV contract. I take my mother down at least twice a year and for that I book a studio at OKW so we can park outside the building. I took two of my nieces down last year and next year I'm taking a group of friends (well, I'm taking care of the grand villa but they're paying for their own airfare and food!!) so it's nice to be able to share with family & friends. For solo trips I used to try to stay in studios to conserve my points but now I'm more willing to stay in a 1-bedroom for myself.

You go, girl! That's what I'm talking about! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I'd love to know how much money the people must make to have purchased 1000 point contracts! Geesh. You could buy half a house in many parts of the country for that. Granted, you could then stay at the Diz for months and months....perhaps a cool way for a snowbird to buy a vacation place...but the taxes and fees would kill ya.

You don't have to be rich, just wise. :) But then you get stuck paying all that maintenance. Oh well, it works for me. We aren't quite at 1000 but if I could dump my Hilton ownership I could reinvest that money in more DVC. Very tempting.

One question I now have is about taxes. Because Florida has no state income tax (constitutionally) they wring out every penny they can from the regressive sales tax and property taxes. They have this odd way of taxation - capping increases by 3% annually from when you purchased the property. My father, who just sold his house near Tampa, had been paying roughly $1500 a year because when he built the house in 68 the land AND the new construction cost $33k. (Oh for those days). The new folks who purchased from him will see their taxes jump from $1500 to slightly over $10,000!!!! Yikes! It's no wonder that for the first time in Florida history more people are moving out than in. But the question is...I wonder about the property taxes on DVCs. How does the state calculate them? Do we have a cap when WE buy shares or does Disney have the cap since ultimately they'll revert to the Diz when the lease is up? I suppose I should have asked about these things BEFORE buying but what the heck.

I'm so psyched over VAKL I could scream. (I would, but I still have a miserable cold someone brought to me as a gift from their trip to Rwanda).

Oh..and on the alleged DVC-Contemporary - here's what I learned from a mid-level cast member for the Disney Institute....When I asked about the new construction she talked about all the renovations. When I pressed further for DVC info, she said "let me put it the way Walt did when his holding companies were secretly buying up the swampland for Disneyworld...'I really can't talk about that right now'". So that I wouldn't always be considered a wet blanket when it comes to rumours about the Contemporary DVC - thought I'd pass this on.:)

I'm with you Viki

Last May I bought 200 points at BWV and then added 25 more in December. Last August my niece and I went Sat - Fri in a studio , last month ( Jan ) Went Sat - Fri in a 1 bedroom with MOM and Aunt. In May going Wed - Mon in a 1 bedroom with the boys then in August have 4 days in 2 ocean view Inn rooms at Vero and then 8 days in a 2 bedroom at BW and last week just booked Sat - Fri studio for my mom and I hoping to swap a couple of days to AKV , which the whole point being .......

1- I want AKV points and going will help me decide how many , and

2- I love sharing DVC with both friends and family but I need more point because the first time I stayed at OKW and BWV was solo and I need some me only trips too!!!

Does anybody trade out with their DVC points? Unless we take the whole scary brood with us every year (we are this December) we could never (well we could, but...) use all of our points at WDW. We aren't making it to Disneyland this year, so far as I can tell.

I've stayed at several concierge collection properties. I really miss the White Swan in SF...it's no longer in the collection. It's nice to have that flexibility for nightly stays in other places. I haven't traded out for a week elsewhere with Interval International yet. Would love to stay at Marriott's new place on the Vegas strip though!

Sure! There's a whole board on the DISBOARDS that is dedicated to renting, selling and/or trading points.

My only complaint with that board is the cost. Most rent for $10 a point! Why so low? I've calculated using $20 a point and STILL come out at about 50% the cost of Disney's Deluxe accoms, and slightly less than some of Disney's Moderates. Sure, if you want to stay at the economy places, then $10 is about right, but why should we rent for so little?

I'd suggest perhaps renting to other DVCers at $10, but non-DVCers let's bump up that cost - after all, we've invested a lot of money here. At $20 per point, it helps us pay the annual fees, etc. and STILL saves the non-DVCers money.

Officially Disney frowns (actually bans) the renting of points as a business type of venture...but here and there, isn't a problem.

Oh I just meant trading into BVTC, etc. within DVC, not to someone else. Big Brother would come and shoot me if I utilized my DVC "for profit" *OH HEAVEN FORBID* (here any sarcasm?)... I almost used some points for Fairmont Sonoma but I found deal (old fashioned cash) on the web. Some of the places have such a premium it isn't worth it (keeping $10/pt in mind).

:rotfl: Profit? Disney? Never! :rotfl:

The whole line of using your points all over the world apart from Disney things amuses me... Sure if you've got 'em left, but they exact a pretty penny for them! Almost always better to use cash!

Hey Miss V
So on your advise I up the workout to 90 sweaty minutes
And bam! I lost 5 pound this week alone! :thumbsup2
You're my new trainer!

The way to tell is if she only chews sensible shoes.

Stella is a good girl!
The only thing she chews are these pig ear things :scared: a neighbor gets her
from the doggy garment treat bakery on the corner near our house.

As for shoes - I think she'd go for a nice pair of Christian Louboutin pumps.
She's kind of a princes.;) That's why we call her Stellarella!

Then she's definitely straight.

Glad you like the new tagline, Vik! I'm deciding if it's too snarky. Didn't know you were a scientist, BTW. Way to go.

It's good that we've all stayed on topic about AKV.

Are Crocs sensible shoes? :) Anyone shell out for the new Mickey Ear Crocs? I just haven't had the nerve to actually buy them
