Well, I'll start out by saying we hadn't planned on a Disney trip in February for ourselves. We gave our DVC points for our winter trip to family members. We decided to try Pop after I saw the $55 a night code advertised in our local paper and realized we had a free airline ticket that was going to expire to boot. Sooo, we booked six nights at Pop. This was to be a pretty cheap trip just to use up an airline ticket and take a look at Disney's newest value property.
We checked in at Pop on Saturday, February 7th. Arrived late around 8:00 p.m. The cast member who checked us in was new, but very nice. He said all they had left was the 90's building area. I said that's fine. But, could you find us a room with a bath tub and not on the first floor. He said sure. We ended up on the 2nd floor facing the pool. Our building was a blue one with the cell phone stairway with the computer/laptop. The room was in great shape. Very clean and everything new in tip top shape. The only negative I can say concerns our first night as someone down the way from us had a small dog in the room that started barking at about 4:00 a.m. If this had continued into the next night, I would have reported it to the front desk. But, we only heard it that first night so I suspect someone may have reported it before we got a chance to. It had to be a small dog because it was a high-pitched yip, yip bark, not a woof, woof. That's the only time I thought we had made a mistake staying at Pop.
I thought Pop was very cute. I was very impressed with the great cast members. EVERYBODY was so nice. I absolutely thought the Hippy Dippy pool area was adorable. I loved how the palm trees circle the pool and how the cement is painted in rainbow colors - blue, light purple, yellow, green, and pink. So soft and summery feeling. This pool also had rows of yellow flowers planted that divided the pool from the kids play area just beyond it. Very pretty pool area for the 60's building. I told my husband I thought the Contemporary hotel could take a lesson from the way that Pop had painted the cement around their 60's pool. Really nice.
We were at the Magic Kingdom on Wednesday when that terrible accident happened. So sad. A cast member let us cross the road right before he was roping off the parade route. The grand masters cars had just started rolling around the corner. We rode the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and after we came out, I remember thinking where's the snow globes? We didn't realize what had happened until we got back to our room and watched the news!
I really thought Pop was very nice. Lots of fun for kids and it is so great that it's affordable for young families. Everywhere we looked kids were having a ball at this resort. No, it wasn't DVC, but we sure had fun. I would stay here again for a night or two before heading over to our DVC point stay.
