DVC Without Children

I don't have any kids and I use my DVC points every year atleast once or twice a year. I have no regrets buying into the DVC. I have used my points not only at WDW but outside Disney.

As a former DINK (DH passed away last year), we purchased DVC because we made an average of two trips per year to WDW. We did the math and realized that, with the increasing cost of WDW hotels, we would even out the cost in about 10 years. We always stayed in a one bedroom because of the space, the kitchen and the washer/dryer. It was so nice to get up in the morning, fix the coffee & tea, make a light breakfast and just relax. We could have a cocktail on our balcony before going out to dinner. We both agreed it was one of the best investments we ever made.

DH and I are also DINKS, and we love our DVC. Our first points were my wedding present 7 years ago, and we've been to WDW twice a year since with no signs of stopping! (And we got bit by the add-on bug too so be careful of that )

Next year will be the first time we "share" our points and our DVC with friends & family. Taking 15 people "home" to AKV. Can't wait to wow 'em!

My DH and I do not have any children and we just became DVC members. So, I don't think it is crazy AT ALL! We love WDW and kids or no kids (as we are not sure what our future holds) we plan to spend a lot of time there.

So not crazy. Dh & I are so happy that '09 my son starts college, not because we're proud of him (which we are) but because now we can go to Disney by ourselves. We are getting more and more enjoyment out of it as the kids get older and older.

Us too! Our sons graduate from high school this year. We purchased in the fall of 2006 when they were 15. My DSis said "Why would you purchase a Disney time share when your kids are so old?" DH and I high-fived each other and said "Because soon most of our vacations will only be paying for two!"

Seriously we hope our sons continue to vacation with us but DH and I are looking foward to some alone time too What better place than WDW?

you certainly don't have to have children to enjoy WDW or DVC.

DVC is really something wasted on the kids. but believe me you and your spouse will enjoy it!

disney is really wasting SSR by closing PI - that would have been the perfect place for young single adults or couples...

that say you still have BW.

if you enjoy WDW believe me you will love DVC - just don't buy too many points (some people have gotten in trouble) and if you are vacation on a budget - kept that in mind and stay in studio. then rent the rest to help pay for the DVC that you use.

now that is not to say never get a 1-bedroom - only beaware of the costs of getting that 1-bedroom when a studio will work.

I don't think it's crazy at all to buy DVC without having kids. My DH and I have 2 kids and they're still young, DD7 and DS10 months but we were just talking the other day how great it's going to be to go by ourselves one day. Dreaming about staying at BWV or BCV and walking to Epcot everynight. We can't wait...even though it will be awhile until we can do it...my dd would never speak to us if we went without her!

We bought when our our kids were in college. The question is not do you have kids but rather do you enjoy vacationing at WDW.

Not crazy at all! DH and I bought into DVC two years ago in our mid-40s, knowing we were going to soon be empty-nesters. Our DD is getting married next summer and DS is 19 and will be out of the house before long. DH and I have been on a number of Disney trips by ourselves and are looking forward to many more!!

I don't think you're crazy at all.

DH and I do have kids, but they're all grown and out of the house. We bought when our 2 oldest had already moved out and our youngest was 16, so we knew he wouldn't be coming with us much longer.

It's one of the best things we've done for ourselves.

Another happy DVC owning DINK couple! We've been members since 2000 and it took us until 2006 to share one point with anyone else

We've taken all sorts of trips and stayed at all of the on site resorts except the new ones (AKL and BLT). We're headed to HH in a few weeks for our third trip there.

There is so much to do and so many ways to enjoy WDW. I hope that you do what is right for your family.

You won't find many on this board that regret buying DVC. And most will agree that they wish they had purchased sooner, I know we do!

We bought DVC after our kids were grown and gone! We go to WDW at least twice per year and have great fun. Sometimes we invite family and friends to go with us and sometimes we have to sneak away!

We thought the same thing......we still get the 1BR. I will not go home with dirty wash and don't want to spend time in a laundry room down the hall.

DINKS here too! DH and I have been married 8 years, no kids and LOVE WDW!! We finally realized it would have been more cost effective to buy into DVC sooner than what we did, but now we have many wonderful years of DVC to look forward to! We are taking our friends with us next summer and have a big family trip planned for 2010 with DH's family.

I tried figuring out this anagram, but just can't get it. What does DINKS stand for (I assume the NK is for no kids?). TIA
