Hello,

A quick question. Are waitlist rooms only filled when cancellations are recieved for those "DVC inventory" rooms or does Disney release rooms from their "cash inventory" at some point prior to the arrival date. I.E, do waitlists have a better chance of filling closer to the arrival date due to more inventory put into the system if available.

Thanks for any input.

Joe

My experience is that rooms go to Disney and not many come back. We have had wait lists open until 7 days before check in and they never came through.

Even if inventory is available, there seems to be issues where wait lists don't get matched.

The only time there is more inventory to put into the system is when there is a new resort and more inventory has been sold (thus inventory available for points stays increases).

There is no automated process for reclaiming CRO rooms to the DVC inventory. Problem is CRO would never rent 100% of the DVC villas it receives. It's more like 1/3 of them, at best. (That's why it costs so many points to trade out of the DVC accommodations.)

If DVC did re-claim rooms, CRO would be owed even more. (i.e. if DVC were to take-back 300 points' worth of villas from CRO, CRO would then be owed 300 points' worth of rooms. When does it ever end?)

CRO does get last-minute reservations so they are content keeping those DVC villas, knowing only a fraction will ever be rented.

There is a process whereby MS CMs can manually recapture rooms from CRO. This happened for me many years ago. I completed a reservation for one resort and then asked to be put on the wait list for another. Instead the CM put me on hold for a few minutes and came up with the desired room. I've read similar stories over the years.

However, it remains a mystery exactly who is able to do this, under what circumstances they will do it, if they will still do it in 2012 and beyond, etc.

in my prior experience with waitlists it seems that I have gotten more ressies just prior to the 30 day holding point cutoff period. I believe that people sometimes hold on to vacations thinking that they can take them or maybe even rent them and when that cutoff time gets near they cancel.

I have on occasion, been very lucky very last minute. Once year for Easter I decided to take my 2 nieces at the last minute and MS managed to get me 4 out of 7 days and then 2 days prior managed to come up with the missing 3 days. So yes magic does happen!

Good luck
