dvc vs. starwood

Just wanted to chime in on this thread. We own both Starwood and DVC. Both are great programs.

The converting of Staroptions can only be converted everyother year, but can be stored for six years.

There are two Starwood properties in Orlando, Vistana Resort and Vistana Villages. Vistana Resort is older and not part of SVN, works like a regular timeshare. Vistana Village is new and is a mandatory resort.

I bought DVC cause I like staying in Disney. I do use my starpoints for stays at Swan and Dolphin. Since I am a Starwood owner, if I book four nights, my fifth night is free. There are no blackouts for using the points. First come, first serve.

Mission Hills is not part of SVN. Do not buy there, unless you want to stay there.

If you love Disney and want to visit every 18 months and want to be in Disney, then DVC sounds like it might work for you. However, if you don't mind staying at Vistana Village or Vistana Resort, I would buy another Starwood timeshare.

Vistana Village does offer incentives for sitting through the 90 minute (3 hour) presentation.

Let me know if you have any specific questions for comparing the two programs.

correct me if
I aM WRONG...............but some places in this system SVC is mandatory and Kierland is one of them.................what I dont get is the wide pricing variety in Kierland resales.........................I have seen some two bedroom lock off for resale listed anywhere from 15K to 30.....................This post got me interested because I do stay at many of the St Regis properties and got to Scotsdale a lot to golf.....................I guess I need to learn a bit more about it...................

The difference in price is probably due to the season the unit is deeded. Platinum season for a two bedroom is 148,100 staroptions, but in silver season is only worth 56,300. You have to be careful with listings though. Some will list thier unit as prime season. But they are basing that on II and not Starwood. In II Arizona is prime (red) season all year, in Starwood its Platinum in January thru begining of April. Most Platinum 2 bedroom weeks resale for around 22,000. The silver weeks will sell for around 15,000. Gold weeks are in the middle somewhere.
