DVC vs. hotel for honeymoon

I've been poking around at DVC stuff, trying to figure out if it's an option we should consider, and wanted to get some opinions from people who will know better than me. :)

1. It looks like the only way a DVC would be a money saver for me vs. our room block rate is if I got a Studio at AKV. Should I consider doing that instead? Anything larger/at another location winds up being equal to or more than our hotel room.

2. If I did go that route, how does it work if there's one night that we'd be at the Grand Flo? We picked that for our free night the night of the wedding since we'll be there already with our reception and stuff. Can we book for three nights, one night off while we're at the Grand Flo and then check back in for the remainder of our trip?

Thanks to anyone who can give advice, this is totally new to me! :worship:

Were you looking at renting points or booking through Disney? Renting points from a member is a huge money saver!! There is a DVC points calculator in wdwinfo.com. You can figure on paying $10 to $11 per point. There is a rent/trade board on the DIS where you find people with points to rent. I'm staying in a 1BR at Boardwalk Villas and Bay Lake Tower during our trip, and it's cheaper than a discounted room at a deluxe. I wouldn't recommend moving on your wedding day - so I'd suggest having 2 rooms that night or moving the free night to the end of your trip.

We're trying to decide the same thing and it is tough! From what I've read the studios @ AKV are similar in size to a standard room @ a mod or deluxe. AKV is a bit farther away than some of the other resorts too and lots of people complain of the bus rides to the parks being longer. I think it really depends on what you are looking for in a resort. Don't chose based on room, chose based on the resort you really want. If you love AKV then go for the studio!

Renting points is the way to go! I did that for us, we are staying at Old Key West in a 1 BR for less than if we stayed at moderate resort for 10 days after our Disney Cruise wedding!
