My DVC Vacation Planner came today. While it has nice pictures and floor plans...I can't find any point charts! Maybe I'm missing something? I know they are available on line, but it's nice to have them all printed out. Anyone else notice the same thing?

We got the 2011 points chart separately a while back, and I suppose this is the *other* part of the info. So I imagine that we'll get a brochure (or "portfolio", as they are calling it even though "portfolio" doesn't match MY meaning of the word with what we got) with the 2012 points charts in another while.

A very small slice of the allure of DVC for me came to us in the mail back in 2008 - we had requested info about DVC And got the hardcover dream book in the mail with all the fancy pictures, info, point charts, etc etc etc
I thought we would get a new one every year!

So I have been a little disappointed in the size, quality, and lack of real information for the last couple of years.

However, if it means paying lower maintenance fees - I'll take the lower quality book. BUT - it should still include point charts - or a printed LINK to point charts.

I have to admit that I usually use one of the DVC point calculator websites to figure things out - even if it's to just look at a point chart.

IMO they shouldn't even send that book with pictures! Mine went right in the trash. I agree with you about the printed out point charts though, i prefer that to online.

I wish that they would just offer the point charts online and skip all the mailings. If someone wants, they can print them off from the site. When someone joins, DVC could give them a booklet describing each resort. Then after that, you can get everything online. Of course for people that do not have internet (strange, even my 80 year old MIL has an IPad with internet), they could call each year and ask that they mail the new point charts to them. This would save a ton on printing and mail charges. I aslo wish that they would do Disney Files online and charge for those that request one be mailed to them. Think of all the money and trees that would be saved.

All they need to do is put some nice photos and floor plans up on the website. Real floor plans and pics. Not those odd 3d renderings that aren't helpful.

If they put the time and money from the books into their website it would possibly be usable.

I may be in the minority here but I actually like the new Planner book. It gives me something tangible that I can show people when they ask me about DVC. Plus I really like looking at the pictures and floor plans. I would much rather have this book than the points book. I can always get the points on the web.

I like the book.... though I wish theyd include more pics of the dvc resorts and less of people having fun (dont know who they are so that doesnt matter to us...we are members already!)

Hardcover was better though.... was a coffee table book for us that we dragged out when we had guests!! Never can have too many referrals! Hardcover book was classy compared to the one we get now pasted with so many pics on the cover

It seems to me to be a repeat of the book I got back in January, minus the points charts. Why send it out within 4 or 5 months of the other?

I like receiving the most recent planning book. The room layouts are very important to me because we bring extended family and the kids bring friends sometimes, so I need to know specific sleeping arrangements when choosing our resort. ie. doors to bathrooms

However, I'm thinking all of the information in both books should be combined into one book to save on mailing expenses. Decrease the pictures of people and just give us the information we need.

Maybe the layout planner will only be mailed infrequently and the points planner will be mailed every two years.

I really, really wish they'd PDF the thing, and/or make it available as an epub for folks with e-readers or iPads. Let members choose between downloading the digital version or receiving the paperbound book(s). C'mon, it's 2011. Like a PP said, my 78 year mother and 86 year old father have their own iPads. They'd opt out of getting the paper version if they were DVC members. :lmao:

I have too much stuff in my apartment as it is. I don't need another book I have to go hunting for. The planners go straight in the recycling bin as soon as they arrive. I've been a member for 10 years, I don't need to see the floor plans again. If I want to look at point charts, I go to the member site. If I want to look up a rule, I go to the member site. If I want to see photos of the villas, I go to the member site.

That said, I'd happily keep the planner on my iPad if it were available as an epub or a PDF. It would cost DVC (and the members) nothing to convert the file from whatever publishing tool they use to create the book and post it on the web site, and I'd be delighted if they'd stop wasting my MF money on producing and mailing me a copy of a book I don't need.

Note that I'm not saying they should stop producing the paper version of the planner. I fully understand that some people would much rather have that, and they absolutely have every right to receive the book if they want to. But allowing those of us who'd rather have a digital version to get one....imagine what they'd save on printing and mailing costs.

Well I live in the woods and have dial up internet...and no I can not get anything else and to even get the regular dvc site to come up is a loooooog process...so I would prefer the book with a chart...Oh and I can't use an ipad either( I do have an itouch but can;t use anything that needs wifi. :goodvibes

I, too, was disappointed that the points chart was not in the planner I just received. I probably got the points chart earlier this year, but who the heck knows which stack it is in now. :rotfl2:

Maybe they are going to make another point change and they wanted to wait until then to print the point charts?

:earsboy: Bill

We sure can't handle point changes 3 years in a row!! But you never know....hope this is not the case.

As far as the planner, regardless of whether they are paper or online to see, I sure wish they offered the square footage with their diagrams! With DVC every foot counts!

People,

The hardcover Dreams book and the vacation planners are different things. You get the Dreams book as a prospective buyer. It's a marketing tool, not an annual "ownership manual".

The annual vacation planners are pretty worthless for those of us that use the internet. I suppose there are plenty of DVC members who aren't active online, but it would still be nice if we could eliminate the expense.
