DVC Updates...possible perk and new resort(s), SSR pool

This was in the works many moons ago but was later dropped. It was around the time Disney announced they would be re-doing the theaters in Times Square. They had even announced it in writing.

or was that just "Cash"

I would love FOTL access, and as to 3rd SSR pool, was told that it would be a regular, but not themed pool, by my guide.

I think this is a mistake, and that they should put in another pool, with slide, and poor bar, and theme it.

I wouldn't even care if they just used the same plans over again twice, if it was easier. Just want something.

Think big = cruise ship (IMHO)

The state of Florida approved sweeping legislation this past June to its timeshare laws. In my read of it, the primary reason for the change was to allow personal property, in addition to real property, as a timeshare. The words "cruise ship" were added to the timeshare law in dozens of places and language specific to personal property was purposely included.

Let's see. What company in Florida is a proven success at timesharing, has the legislative clout to get the law changed, and has a timeshare buyer base of over 80,000 people , in addition to millions of potential buyers per year?

I think a DVC cruise ship would be a very creative concept.

Oh my gosh, that is the best idea I've heard yet! You're right, it would be very creative. I'm not sure how it would work. Obviously you wouldn't be able to do single night ressies. They'd have to be 4, 7, 10....whatever the length of the cruise is. I'll say a prayer to the rumor gods that this one happens some day. :)

As much as we would enjoy having the perk - I'm against it. I think that brings 'class' issues into the lines. Now - we're certainly not upper class - but being able to swing a DVC membership makes me feel very fortunate. I don't think you could ever explain to a 5 year old waiting for a ride why all those other people get to sneak ahead of him! Fastpass is fair, and I think it's been working pretty well. I'd almost be embarrassed to use FOTL! Just my opinion...:goodvibes

I completely agree with this. I think FP works pretty well in it's current incarnation. I know they had to revamp it at DL because so many rides were FP it just didn't work any more. I'd much rather see perks in the form of better ticket discounts.

Friends of ours stayed at GF for a week in June. They did 2 days at Universal and bought FOTL as an OPTION on the passes. They raved about it and said it was worth every cent. They really enjoyed the 2 days in Universal. In fact, the only complaint they had was about the Mears shuttle that took them there! Even using Fastpass they claimed the lines were crazy at every Disney park. Having never gone in the summer, I can only imagine the waits are terrible. I think it would be great if Disney did some kind of FOTL perk. I also think a new DVC resort with the garden wings of the CR would be great!

I talked to my guide - she can't verify Cont - unfortunate she say that management has say "no comment" - so they aren't saying yes or not

the upper management has not decided.....

However she did say that Hawaii would probably be one.....A DVC resort in Hawaii....

She also explained that it was California's laws that kept the DVC resort from becoming. California only allows real estate to be forever (okay I can't spell the correct legal term) - and not the 50 years or less that DVC wants to do.

so they won't do one in California.

so a big plus for Hawaii - not certain about Cont and no for California - I didn't ask about the cruises......:o

Oh I really want the Cont to be a DVC resort!!! Come on managment make up your mind!!!!:hyper: ::yes:: :yo-yo:

To continue speculation, I had heard Anaheim was inacting some type of city law that would allow a DVC resort to happen.

While I wouldn't have a problem using a DVC FOTL - I have no problem using any of the DVC perks and discounts - I don't think it would be a good idea. My main concern is that it's one of those perks that loses value the more people have - and use - it.

According to the OP's source, FP is being re-thought because too many people are using it; I'd be concerned that this could eventually happen to a FOTL-type perk.

Also, I can see some implementation problems; if you use a 2 BR on points, do you get eight FOTLs? Do you get FOTL only if you buy the UPH? How would they know what you did with any extra FOTLs (a new eBay item :p )?

It just seems like one of those things that sounds nice but would be a pain to implement and soon start losing value.

And can you imagine the Howl Heard Round The (Walt Disney) World when the AP holders find out that DVC gets this new FOTL and they don't? ;)

I'll take a 10-20% AP discount, thanks.

I think it would be hard to sell points in Hawaii. It's a nice place to visit, but would you buy points to stay there every year? It's a long distance, especially for eastcoasters.

No offense to anyone who lives in the eastern part of the U.S., but perhaps Disney might be trying to target an area that would be convenient for some of the rest of us!!

DrTomorrow,
I agree with you in part - regarding the discount I'd like to see it on hoppers and single day tickets. Also, I could see FOTL being implemented by showing your blue DVC card and room key (right now for many of the perks/discounts we receive we have to show both). Regarding the yell that the AP holders will let out. Did DVC members yell when the AP holders (I was both at the time) had their own lounge at AK? or when AP holders had special viewing areas for fireworks and visa versa when DVC owners had the privilege? Just my .02

Thinking big.... keep thinking about the possibility of a DVC Cruise ship. Is there such a thing today in the timeshare industry? Wouldn't the costs be prohibitive?

Oh.. I get it. BIG = Big point cost, big maintenance fees.

there is a cruise ship that is kinda like that - I think you need to buy a month - very, very, very expensive - or it is being built - saw the information once on the travel channel. not a US ship.

I don't think Hawaii is any more convenient for someone in the midwest or even the west coast . It's still far away. For DVC to build, they have to have the expectation that they will be able to recoup their cost by selling all the points in a resonable amount of time. I just can't see a rush to buy points in Hawaii. From what I understand, DVC's price is much higher than other timeshares. They get away with it at WDW because they have the parks as a draw. It took them a long time to sellout HH & VB.

Debbie, you're absolutely correct that flying to Hawaii from the Midwest is still quite lengthy. My point was not based on a particular location, though. Simply trying to say that Disney may be trying to tap into a different market that is not necessarily convenient for people in the East but is for others -- just as travelling to WDW is convenient for a lot of you lucky folks but not for others! Being centrally located, it's all about the same to us!!

Isn't that the purpose? Instead of waiting in line they are shopping and eating. Disney controls how many FP's are given per hour, so I don't see how FP is a problem. Its working just like they wanted it to.

I can second the Texas land acquisition rumor. I have several friends here in Texas who have large construction contracting businesses and stone yards and I have also been told the same thing about a "Disney" company acquiring land. Texas may not have the most land, but Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austins growth rates are phenomenal. Many large corporations are relocating to Texas because of the incentives for their workers. No state income tax, lower cost of living than most Northern states and California, and miles and miles of room to expand.
I'd take a Texas resort, A couple hotels, one with a DVC wing, and the park being a Disney Sea similar to Japans.

I would if they also built a Magic Kingdom type park and added enough unique things, that it made it worth a trip to Hawaii over California.
I think a resort with a real ocean front beach, and a Magic Kingdom a short ride away would be quite a hit.

Texas makes more economical sense.
Alaska might be good for the far future, especially with global warming.

I believe Universal has this offer because they need people to stay at their resorts.

Why do you think there is discounting going on at Disney hotels.

It becomes a problem again when all the fastpasses are gone by early afternoon. Then you are back to having everyone standing in line.
